After more than a month, the articles of impeachment have finally been transmitted to the U.S. Senate. Despite transmitting the articles, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats still have an unquenchable thirst for more political theater. Unfortunately, this means that meaningful debate on pressing issues such as surprise medical billing and national security has been pushed to the backburner. It’s time that the House of Representatives returns to regular order and casts aside unnecessary political showmanship.
Celebrating The Right To Life
This week, I spoke on the House floor on the right to life. Amidst the shroud of rancor and divisiveness that hangs over the House of Representatives at present, I will continue to fight for the unborn. They deserve nothing less than unwavering advocates. To view my remarks, click here.
Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
On Tuesday, the House Education and Labor Committee passed H.R. 2694, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. Discrimination of any type should not be tolerated, and no one should ever be denied an opportunity because of unlawful discrimination. Sadly, despite the bipartisan nature of this bill, it does not include a provision that protects religious organizations from being denied protections they receive under current law. Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act
The Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act (H.R. 1230) is a one-size-fits-all mandate that egregiously subverts current law, real-world experience, and decades of Supreme Court precedent. While the title of the bill may carry positive connotations, its underlying implications are very concerning. To read my full remarks, click here.
Recent Medicare Scam
Over the past week, the North Carolina Department of Insurance has received numerous reports of phone calls that are listed as “Senior Center”. According to these reports, callers claim to be conducting a Medicare survey and are demanding that people provide them with personal information. Medicare will never call you and they will never ask for personal information over the telephone.
If someone is threatening to cancel your benefits if you don’t give up information or money, report it to the Department’s Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program or SHIIP or the N.C. Senior Medicare Patrol at 1-855-408-1212.
On Tuesday, Connor Appelboom from Winston Salem visited my office and was able to see a committee hearing and votes on the House floor.
