On Tuesday, I was selected by Speaker Mike Johnson as the Chairwoman of the House Committee on Rules, one of the House’s oldest standing committees that was formally constituted on April 2, 1789. I am humbled and honored to have been selected, and I thank Speaker Johnson for placing his trust and faith in me to lead this esteemed committee. On November 5th, the American people gave President Trump and Congressional Republicans a mandate to turn our Republic around and move towards a brighter and more prosperous future. Our Republican majority in the People’s House will achieve that end, and we will deliver upon President Trump’s agenda with diligence and expediency. I look forward to contributing to this great American turnaround – and I’m excited to get to work.
Another Massive Win
This week, House Republicans passed H.R. 28, The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, legislation that allows women and girls a fair playing field by ensuring that school athletics comply with the intent of Title IX to protect individuals from sex discrimination based on the person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth. This bill ensures that biological females compete against other biological females in women's sports sponsored by entities receiving federal education funding. As Speaker Johnson noted in his press conference following the passage of this bill, “The American people sent a clear message in November. They want a return to common sense…”. I’m proud to have supported this bill, and to have taken another strong stand for women and girls across the nation.”
New Members
In the 119th Congress, North Carolina’s congressional delegation added five new Republican members in the House of Representatives:
Congressman Pat Harrigan
Congressman Tim Moore
Congressman Addison McDowell
Congressman Mark Harris
Congressman Brad Knott
Our delegation remains very strong with these additional conservative voices. Speaker John Boehner once remarked that North Carolina’s congressional delegation punches above its weight – I certainly agree. In fact, these new Republican members played an instrumental role in securing the House majority. I look forward to working alongside our delegation’s newest colleagues to deliver upon the American people’s mandate as well as President Trump’s America First agenda.
