Foxx Report

When the federal government presses its thumb down on consumer choice, and begins issuing misguided regulation after misguided regulation, hardworking Americans are the ones affected the most. Imagine that you are shopping for a new home appliance. As you do your research and compare products, what’s particularly important to you? Affordability and reliability, I would certainly argue, are top of mind for many – and rightfully so.

The Biden administration’s anti-American energy policies have not helped the American people – that much is very clear. What have these policies done? They’ve led to skyrocketing energy prices, decimated consumer choice, and kneecapped economic growth. House Republicans have just passed two separate bills that push back on the burdensome regulations imposed under the anti-American energy policies of this administration:

  • The Refrigerator Freedom Act
  • Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards (SUDS) Act

These two pieces of legislation achieve two distinct ends:

  • To protect affordability, quality, and choice for residential refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers by preventing federal agencies from imposing new rules and regulations.
  • To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from enforcing or prescribing new energy efficiency standards that are not economically justified, likely to increase costs for Americans, and are not likely to result in conservation of energy.

What you may not know is that the Department of Energy’s own energy efficiency mandates for refrigerators and freezers could increase upfront costs to Americans by 25%. When it comes to dishwashers specifically, the agency’s own mandates could increase upfront costs to Americans by 28%. Heavy-handed overregulation such as this is entirely unnecessary, and it does more harm than good. I was proud to vote for these two pieces of legislation to restore consumer choice and put decision-making power back in your hands where it truly belongs.

Tune In Next Week

This upcoming Monday, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will hold a hearing titled “Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump.” The purpose of this hearing is to gain key information from United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle about the unacceptable lapses in security that put President Trump’s life in danger. Recently, I joined my Republican colleagues on the Committee in sending a letter to Director Cheatle calling for the immediate preservation of documents and communications regarding the Butler, Pennsylvania rally. I look forward to questioning Director Cheatle directly and working to expose the facts that you, and the entire nation, deserve to know.

Oversight Continues

In my July 5th newsletter to you, I discussed how the Supreme Court struck a blow in favor of the Constitution and against the unconstitutional administrative state by overturning Chevron deference. Following the Supreme Court’s decision, I led eight separate letters – as Chairwoman of the Education and the Workforce Committee – to federal agencies calling on them to adhere to the Supreme Court’s decision. The expansive administrative state encouraged by Chevron deference has undermined our system of government, overburdened our citizenry and threatened to overwhelm the founders’ system of checks and balances. Our efforts to uphold accountability and robust oversight will continue.
