President Trump’s visit to North Carolina last Friday was a serious demonstration of his leadership and his eagerness to help North Carolinians in our part of the state get back on their feet. I was fortunate to join President Trump, members of his administration, and members of the North Carolina delegation on this trip. During our discussions, I made sure to call attention to the impact of Hurricane Helene’s devastation within the 5th District, and I also made sure to highlight how FEMA and other federal agencies have failed countless men, women, and families in North Carolina as well. If FEMA is unable to be fixed, it should be overhauled.
I do have some good news that I’m proud to share with you. As you may recall, I was recently selected as a member of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce – this subcommittee includes direct oversight of FEMA. In addition to this important subcommittee assignment, President Trump has recently nominated me to the Council to Assess the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In this new role, I’ll be working to hold FEMA’s feet to the fire at every turn – western North Carolina deserves nothing less. I’ll also be working alongside some fellow North Carolinians as well:
- Congressman Chuck Edwards
- Congressman Tim Moore
- Michael Whatley
After traveling with President Trump and members of our delegation last week, I joined Dagen McDowell on Fox Business to discuss the trip and the progress that I believe will be achieved thanks to President Trump’s leadership. As I laid out in the interview, it was very heartwarming to see the president’s interactions with those who have been affected, as well as to hear his commitment that the mountains of North Carolina will not be forgotten. You can rest assured that I will continue to be a strong voice for the High Country, and I will continue to fight so that FEMA is held accountable for its inaction. I look forward to providing additional updates on the progress that we will achieve in the coming weeks and months.
