The devastation and destruction caused by Hurricane Helene is beyond heartbreaking – I continue to pray for everyone who has been affected as well as first responders across western North Carolina and the entire state who continue to aid those in need. While there are many people in the 5th District who are without power in the mountains, I am working as hard as I can to share information with everyone – this newsletter is one such way of doing so. Being in the High Country, I am acutely aware of the hardships that people are facing. I’m continuing to engage with local leaders, first responders, and representatives from different state and federal agencies to get as much information as I can to share with you. I have also received reports on communities that are cut off completely and without supplies.

I am currently aware of stranded communities in Beech Mountain, Banner Elk, and Elk Park. This information has been passed on to first responders and efforts are currently underway to bring supplies to affected communities.
