Throughout the 118th Congress, House Republicans delivered wins for every American and their families. From fighting inflation to safeguarding our God-given rights, strengthening the economy to holding the federal government accountable, we made serious progress on issues that remain top of mind for many across the nation. As the 118th Congress ends, and we look forward to continuing Republican leadership in the House, a new Republican majority in the Senate, and President Trump returning to the White House, it is worth reflecting upon the wins that have led us to this point. The following list of wins is not exhaustive, but it highlights important legislation – and progress – that will be built upon in the 119th Congress:
H.R. 1, Lower Energy Costs Act
H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act of 2023
H.R. 5, Parents Bill of Rights Act
H.R. 734, Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act
H.R. 1425, No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty Without Senate Approval Act
H.R. 2670, National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024
H.R. 5339, Protecting Americans’ Investments from Woke Policies Act
H.R. 5933, Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions Act
H.R. 8281, Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act
S.59/H.R. 1.59, Chance to Compete Act **My bill that was signed into law**
As we enter the 119th Congress, I’ll be working closely with my colleagues in the People’s House to advance President Trump’s agenda and meet the mandate that the American people gave us on November 5th. There’s a lot of work to do, and you can rest assured that I’ll continue to update you on the meaningful progress that we make along the way.
Disaster Assistance Update
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has recently extended its deadline to apply for disaster assistance. Those who have been affected by Hurricane Helene have until February 6th, to apply for assistance through FEMA. Per FEMA’s website, there are multiple ways for one to apply:
- Visit a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) To find the center location nearest you go to fema.gov/drc.
- Go online to disasterassistance.gov.
- Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 7 a.m. and midnight. Help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
If you or someone you know are experiencing problems with FEMA and other agencies, please contact my offices in Boone and Clemmons so that we may step in and work to resolve the issue.

Congressional App Challenge Winner
Recently, I was proud to select Saanvi Rao of Atkins Academic & Technology High School as the 5th District winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge. Her application, EcoTronics, is designed to help reduce electronic pollution, or “E-Waste”, by helping users locate nearby recycling centers and electronics repair stores so that they can either properly discard their unwanted electronics or find resources to have them fixed. Her submission wove together principles of practicality, stewardship, and ingenuity to create an effective solution to an everyday problem, and I am highly impressed in her work. Congratulations, Saanvi, on this wonderful accomplishment.
