Foxx Report

Today, the House passed H.R. 4, the Disaster Recovery Reform Act.  This five-year reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration provides long-term stability for the nation’s aviation infrastructure, improves America’s competitiveness in the global aviation sector, and ensures the safety of the system for the traveling public.

Tuesday, the House passed H.R. 4681, the No Assistance for Assad Act to ensure that the U.S. does not provide assistance for reconstruction or stabilization in areas of Syria controlled by Bashar al-Assad or his forces, enforced by extensive conditions, certifications, and reporting.  The last thing U.S. tax dollars should be directed towards is aiding the interests of that brutal regime.

On World Intellectual Property Day this Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 5447, the Music Modernization Act.  This bill protects the creativity and intellectual property of our county’s artists, bringing our antiquated copyright laws into the 21st Century.

Supporting Israel

May 14 marks the 70th anniversary of Israel’s independence and the birth of the State of Israel; it also marks the beginning of a longstanding friendship between the U.S. and our strategic ally.  In anticipation of this occasion, I was proud to introduce House Resolution 835 which urges diplomatic recognition of Israel by governments that have yet to take that step.  It also encourages equitable treatment of Israel in international organizations and calls on UN member states to support Israel’s candidacy for the Security Council.  Robust recognition of Israel’s sovereignty is vital for U.S. national security and this resolution provides a fitting opportunity for Congress to express its support for our strategic ally and friend.

Congressional Art Competition

I am pleased to take part in this year’s Congressional Art Competition and look forward to receiving many outstanding works from across North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.  In order to be eligible, all entries must be received in either my Boone or Clemmons office no later than Friday, May 4th.  Be sure to fill out the following release form.  And see competition guidelines here.

North Carolinians in the Capitol

Every week I meet with many different constituents, industries, and non-profits who bring their concerns to my Washington D.C. office.  Here is a snapshot of recent meetings I’ve held.

North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists

National Beer Wholesalers Association

 Mountain View Elementary School

On this date in 1911, Representative Victor Berger of Wisconsin introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution to dissolve the United States Senate.

What’s Coming Up?

Next week, I will be in the 5th District for a District Work Period.  I will be travelling around meeting with constituents, visiting small businesses, and attending community events.  I look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,
