Foxx Report for the Week of March 19, 2018 |
|
In the State of the Union, the president commented on the need to give millions of dying American patients hope of extending or saving their lives by giving them critical access to experimental medications. For far too long, too many of us have watched loved ones and friends suffer as medical teams informed them that nothing else could be done.
This week, the House acted to secure easier access to treatments for critically ill patients by voting on H.R. 2368, the Right to Try Act. This legislation, which passed with my support, will break down barriers for terminally-ill patients and allow them to obtain experimental drugs that have completed the initial phase of approval by the Food and Drug Administration. As a staunch supporter of the culture of life, I was pleased to support this legislation which will allow innovative and life-affirming treatments to be prescribed to ailing Americans. Additionally, the House voted for the FY’18 Omnibus, a series of spending bills that will provide additional funding to the National Institute of Health and fully redress the readiness crisis our military has faced under the past administration.
Women in the Workforce
Every March, we observe Women’s History Month and celebrate the trailblazing women who have enriched our history, our society and our communities. That’s why I spoke on the House Floor this week and recognized the hardworking women in today’s workforce who account for nearly half of the workforce and are making history worth recognizing.
