Foxx Report for the Week of February 5, 2018

At a time when the media portrays our nation as more polarized than ever before – the need to highlight bipartisan legislative solutions is at an all-time premium. In fact, did you know that 395 out of 401 House-passed bills that are stuck in the Senate are bipartisan? This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed my bill, H.R. 3851, the War Crimes Rewards Expansion Act by a vote of 407-0. This proves that good policy can and does overpower partisan hurdles.

GREAT Update

As you may recall, in October I began work on the Grant Reporting Efficiency and Assistance Transparency (GREAT) Act. This week, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform considered my legislation and reported it favorably, which means my bill may soon be debated on the House Floor. I introduced the GREAT Act because it’s high-time that we bring our grant reporting submission process into the 21st century. We have far too much data – often constrained within paper documents – and very little information. As a result of this, the $600 billion in federal grants paid for by taxpayers and doled out to state and local governments, non-profits, universities and others is often not transparently spent and can lead to failed outcomes and massive inefficiencies. The GREAT Act would modernize our system by replacing static PDF’s for grant reporting and compliance with searchable and workable data.

National Prayer Breakfast

It was an honor to attend the 66th annual National Prayer Breakfast. This unifying event brings together members of different nationalities, faiths, and political affiliations to celebrate the power of prayer. It was a privilege to hear from President Trump and Representative Steve Scalise about the power of faith. I couldn’t agree more with the President’s vision that, “When Americans are able to live by their convictions, to speak openly of their faith, and to teach their children what is right, our families thrive, our communities flourish, and our nation can achieve anything at all.”

What’s Coming Up

Next week, the House will take up legislation to ensure a firm foundation in our nation’s banking and lending processes. First, we will work to promote stability and certainty in loan interest rates by debating the Protecting Consumers' Access to Credit Act of 2017. Furthermore, the House will push back against an inaccurate reporting process dictated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s K
now Before You Owe (KBYO) or TRID mortgage disclosure rule by taking up the TRID Improvement Act of 2017.

Sincerely,
