This week, a grateful nation paid tribute to North Carolina’s favorite son, Reverend Billy Graham. Reverend Graham will be remembered by millions of people for many reasons – this is a testament to the people he inspired. Though I am sad that Reverend Graham is no longer with us, I rejoice that he has gone to join the Lord who he loved so dearly.
This week, I was proud to join President Trump, Vice President Pence, members of Congress and Reverend Graham’s family and friends in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda to honor him. Reverend Graham is the fourth civilian in U.S. history to lie in honor and this service allowed for many Americans to pay their last respects.
A happy instrument
A number of dignitaries offered beautiful words regarding Reverend Graham’s life and works. I wanted to share some of those remarks with you.
Chaplain of the House - Introduction by Reverend Patrick Conroy
Senator McConnell - Remarks by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
Speaker Ryan - Remarks by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan
President Trump - Remarks by President Trump
The North Carolina Delegation presented Reverend Graham's family with a flag flown in his honor. |
Lastly, the House continued to do everything we can to help victims of online sex trafficking by passing H.R. 1864, the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act. This measure puts our nation one step closer to ending online human trafficking.
What’s Coming Up
Next week, the House will take up legislation to ensure our nation has access to the energy resources it needs. H.R. 1119, the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment Act, and H.R. 1917, the Blocking Regulatory Interference from Closing Kilns Act of 2017, will push back against onerous regulations that threaten affordable streams of energy and manufacturing materials.
Sincerely,
