The Way Forward on Immigration Reform |
|
Dear Friends,
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: America’s immigration system is broken. It’s not working for families; it’s not working for employers; it’s not working for taxpayers.
The House of Representatives is carefully considering how to correct immigration policies so that America’s border is secured, our laws dutifully enforced, and the draw for illegal immigration removed. I encourage you to take a moment to read a column I wrote that outlines my priorities for strengthening immigration. The text is available here and an excerpt is included below.
In the House of Representatives recently, I worked with my colleagues to protect every American from Obamacare’s onerous mandates and begin the process of restoring local control in education. Details on these measures are below.
If you’d like to share your thoughts with me about these policies or others, please don’t hesitate to contact me through my website www.foxx.house.gov.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Virginia Foxx

Immigration: Reform Promises Must be Kept
If we’ve learned anything from Obamacare it’s that Washington isn’t too good at “comprehensive” solutions. Massive laws inevitably fall short of promises and leave the country begging for real reform.
The fallibility of a comprehensive approach to immigration was proved in 1986, the last time Washington passed a broad overhaul of immigration policy. In legislation heralded as the definitive solution to illegal immigration, amnesty was granted to millions in exchange for promises of tougher enforcement. Those promises weren’t kept.Because of Washington’s failure, the country is still in need of immigration reform.
The best way to move forward with reform is through regular order so every issue – from enforcement and border security to E-Verify and visas – can be fully vetted step-by-step for its alignment with America’s national security and economic growth interests. Read more.
Every American Deserves a Break from Obamacare
If you can believe it, the Obama Administration announced its intention to give businesses – and businesses only - a one year break from Obamacare’s employer mandate. Republicans in the House of Representatives see Obamacare for the broken law that it is and we don’t want any American suffering under its weight. That’s why we voted to delay the implementation of both Obamacare’s employer and individual mandates so every American is guaranteed a reprieve from Obamacare’s harmful effects. You may be interested to know that a number of Democrats joined us in our effort as well. Read more.
Education in NC: North Carolina Knows Best
The importance of a good education cannot be understated. You and I both know North Carolina teachers, parents, and administrators are the ones best positioned to help North Carolina students. House Republicans don’t want federal micromanagement of local classrooms getting in the way of student success, so we passed the Student Success Act which will reduce the size of the federal government’s footprint in education, empower parents, support effective teachers, and restore local control.
