Foxx Report

As you may recall, one of the core pillars to House Republicans’ Commitment to America is ensuring a government that is accountable. Don’t you believe that the federal workforce should be attracting high-quality individuals who can best serve the American people? I certainly do, and that’s why I recently introduced the Chance to Compete Act of 2023 alongside Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY), Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA). My legislation is specifically crafted to give federal agencies the ability to distinguish high performing people – rather than just those with a degree – in a field of prospective job candidates. Currently, the federal hiring process is both dilapidated and archaic, and it serves as a deterrent to attracting these exceptional men and women.

I am happy to report that this week, the Chance to Compete Act of 2023 was passed in the House on a truly bipartisan basis. The simple truth is that every hardworking taxpayer in America deserves an efficient and accountable federal government that’s supported by those with appropriate skills. This legislation builds upon a solid record of bipartisan collaboration and proven success in codifying key skills-based hiring reforms. I look forward to its subsequent passage in the United States Senate.

The Opportunity To Work is A Blessing

Words matter and ideas have consequences. That is why House Republicans are once again changing the name of the Committee I now chair to the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Every time Democrats take control of the House, they swap out the word ‘workforce’ for ‘labor.’ This back-and-forth is at the core of Republicans’ and Democrats’ differing views on the concept of work.

ICYMI: My Latest Interview

Recently, I joined Larry Kudlow on Fox Business to discuss my priorities for the Education and Workforce Committee for the 118th Congress. As chair of the committee, I will work to protect parental rights, expand education freedom, reform our student loan system, and ensure workers and job creators have the opportunities they need to succeed. Conducting vigorous and sustained oversight of the federal government, especially the Departments of Education and Labor, remains atop my list priorities. We must stop this administration’s reckless and destructive regulatory agenda.
