Why did it take President Biden so long to visit the southern border? It’s a simple question that the American people have been asking ever since he traveled to El Paso, Texas, just 12 days ago. Sadly, his visit was nothing more than a tightly orchestrated photo-op that did nothing to address the serious national security catastrophe that his policies have created. I believe he owes every American an explanation as to why he has ignored their demands for a stronger and more secure border. Don’t you?

Of course, when you look at this catastrophe, the facts tell a much graver story than what the Biden administration would want you to believe. To recap, here are a few topline facts courtesy of the House Republican Conference that shed light on how serious things have become:

  • Since President Biden took office, over 4.5 million illegal aliens have been apprehended at the southern border.
  • November of 2022 was the worst November on CBP’s 22-year record for monthly crossings and the ninth consecutive month that our southern border had more than 200,000 illegal crossings.
  • In November of 2022, there were more than 70,000 known “gotaways” at the southern border—a historic record.
  • Federal agents estimate they are only able to seize between 5% and 10% of all the deadly drugs smuggled across the border.

Let me be clear, I am in full support of beginning an impeachment inquiry of the Department of Homeland Security’s Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his evident dereliction of duty at the southern border. Thanks to his inaction, our national security posture has suffered a crippling blow, and the safety of American people has been under siege. Together, House Republicans will work to secure our border and to hold not only Secretary Mayorkas accountable, but also President Biden. We will continue to work tirelessly to meet our commitment of ensuring that our nation remains safe.

Oversight Is Here

Recently, I sent multiple letters to federal agency heads renewing congressional inquiries that I began in the 117th Congress. These agency heads fall within the jurisdiction of the Education and Workforce Committee. Federal agencies have an unfortunate habit of discarding congressional inquiries each time a new Congress begins. Not to worry, I saved copies. Agency heads can check their inboxes for my updated letters seeking answers on behalf of the American people.

New Scam Alert

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has issued a new warning to North Carolinians across the state that you need to know about. According to NCDOT officials, scammers are now sending deceptive emails, with the address “notice@penalty-gov-us”, that direct individuals to click on an unsecure link to pay fines relating to alleged driving violations. Please note that both the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, and the NCDOT, do not send individuals emails regarding fines, violations, and driving history – these notices will be sent through regular mail.
