In just six days, Americans across the country will be gathering alongside their friends and loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, but unfortunately, this year’s feast, as well as travel, come with a hefty price tag. For instance, a flight to visit family and friends this year will cost 43% more on average compared to last year. Grocery prices are already up over 12%, and according to a new survey from Personal Capital, roughly one quarter of Americans are planning to skip Thanksgiving dinner altogether this year. It seems that even one of our most cherished holidays cannot escape the grip of President Biden’s inflation catastrophe.

Just look at the following essentials at the grocery store that continue to jump in price. These are just a few items that you may need for your Thanksgiving meal:

  • Turkey is UP 23%
  • Flour is UP 24.6%
  • Eggs are UP 43%
  • Milk is UP 14.5%
  • Butter is UP 26.7%

The simple truth is that inflation has taken, and continues to take, a sizable bite out of the budgets of American families under President Biden’s watch. They’re fed up, and rightfully so. House Republicans are prepared to fulfill our commitment to an economy that’s strong – where families and hardworking taxpayers will no longer feel the weight of inflation bearing down upon their shoulders and their wallets.

National Apprenticeship Week

This week, we celebrate the 8th Annual National Apprenticeship Week. It is the perfect time to reflect on what is and what isn’t working in our nation’s workforce development programs. There are more than 10 million unfilled jobs in this country and nearly six million unemployed individuals. There is clearly a crack in the education-to-workforce pipeline. The best way to address our country’s skills gap and worker shortage is to promote workforce development programs that truly work. For too long, the college-for-all mentality has pushed young people into obtaining a baccalaureate degree regardless of their intended career. This mentality is slowly shifting, and our country will be better off for it.

Oversight Republicans Are Ready

This Thursday, I joined Ranking Member James Comer (R-KY) and my Republican colleagues on the House Oversight Committee in laying out the next steps on our investigation into the Biden family’s international business dealings. Our aim is simple: To determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Biden’s ability to lead with impartiality. Hunter and other members of the Biden family have a pattern of peddling access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves. It’s time that the American people get answers.

Quote of The Week

“By a continuing process of inflation, government can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens.”
