Foxx Report

There are three simple steps to reduce the national debt: limit spending, safeguard hard-earned taxpayer dollars, and grow the economy. It’s not rocket science, it’s common sense. Unfortunately, common sense is in short supply in some quarters in Washington. President Biden refuses to come to the table and negotiate in good faith with Republicans on the debt limit – he remains committed to continuing reckless spending sprees and is not interested in helping taxpayers. He seems determined to slow down the economy at every turn and make things much worse. The economy is already saddled with fragility and turbulence, and delay serves only to worsen these symptoms.

Speaker McCarthy has already outlined four different points as to how America can save trillions of dollars and spur economic growth at the exact same time. These points include, but are not limited to:

  • Reducing excessive non-defense government spending to pre-inflationary levels and limiting out-year growth.
  • Reclaiming unspent COVID funds that are gathering dust over the past two years.
  • Strengthening work requirements for those without dependents who can work — welfare reform.
  • Enacting policies that put our economy first, keep Americans safe, lower energy costs, make America energy independent again, and securing our border from the flow of deadly fentanyl.

Together, these points represent a viable pathway towards addressing the top issue that’s facing the American people today: the skyrocketing inflation brought on by the reckless government spending under One Party Rule. Now is certainly not the time for cheap, political brinksmanship on the President’s part – it’s time for him to put aside his political agenda, pull up a chair, roll up his sleeves, and work with us to ensure our economy does not suffer even more irreparable damage than what he and his colleagues have already caused.

Our Oversight Efforts Continue

This week, I joined Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) in sending a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona requesting all documents, communications, and policies guiding the Department’s administration COVID-19 education funds. Here is a short excerpt of our letter:

“It is important for the American people and their elected lawmakers to understand how the Department administers funds intended to assist students during the pandemic and the extent to which any funds may have been misused by State Educational Agencies or Local Educational Agencies for unrelated purposes.”

Certificate of Honor Ceremony

In partnership with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, I’m inviting all former, living prisoners of war (POW) and the family members of missing, unaccounted for, and deceased Vietnam-era veterans in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District to be honored in a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration Certificate of Honor Ceremony on Memorial Day weekend. The Certificate of Honor is a commemorative token presented to and on behalf of Vietnam War veterans across the country as a lasting memento of the nation’s thanks for their service. These heroes deserve the commendation and the official welcome home that they never received, and their families deserve to be reminded that the nation will forever remember the sacrifices made by their loved ones.
