Foxx Report

Here’s the bottom line: One Party Rule in Washington corrupted the legislative process for the last two years - thereby failing every American. As I am sure you remember, the People’s House was characterized with disarray, dysfunction, and sheer incompetence. Voting on the House floor took hours to complete due to House Democrats refusing to show up to work and allowing proxy voting during the entirety of the 117th Congress. Committee business was conducted on a remote basis which led to numerous technical difficulties - often derailing proceedings for extended periods of time.

Now, everything has changed. Thanks to House Republicans, regular order has been restored in the People’s House. From votes completed in the allotted time to substantive debate on the merits of legislation that now take place on the House floor, the American people are seeing meaningful progress occur in real time. If you have tuned in to House proceedings on television or online, you will see that vote times have been significantly reduced, an open amendment process has been reinstituted, and rigorous debate is alive and well. This is good governance in action.

It is also a welcome sign to see Americans from across the country visiting the Capitol again, participating in walking tours, and learning more about the history of this great institution. For far too long, they were denied the opportunity to visit the Capitol and see the business of the people conducted in the open - it was entirely shameful. As part of House Republicans’ Commitment to America, we highlighted our comprehensive plan to ensure a government that is accountable. Every day, we’re acting upon that commitment and placing both accountability and transparency at the feet of the American people.

As Speaker McCarthy wrote a few weeks ago in an op-ed in the New York Post, “This is the level of commitment the American people deserve, and it is the level of commitment House Republicans will work to deliver every single day.”

No Double Standards

Recently, I sent letters to the Departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services asking whether the Biden administration’s policy of making committee chairmen’s inquiries a priority will change now with the Republican majority in the House. During the 117th Congress, these agencies effectively stonewalled House Republicans because they were in the minority. I will watch the actions of these agencies carefully in response to congressional oversight. Should they fail to respond in a timely manner, it will demonstrate their stark partisanship and lack of respect for Congress and the American people.

The SHOW UP Act

This week, the House passed the SHOW UP Act, legislation that would require the federal workforce to return to the office and provide prompt service to the American people, that I was proud to cosponsor. Thanks to the federal government’s pandemic-era telework policies - which were instituted by bureaucrats in Washington - delay and disarray might as well have become hallmarks of federal agencies and departments. Yet again, House Republicans are acting on our commitment to ensure a government that is accountable to the people.

Quote of The Week

“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.”
