If left unchecked and unconfronted, the evils of socialism will corrupt civil society as we know it. We saw France being overrun this past weekend with riots, looting, and brazen lawlessness – and we saw the exact same caliber of violence and lawlessness spring up in Italy as well. Indeed, these developments are extremely concerning. We should all be paying close attention to what’s happening now. If what happened in France and Italy – both of which are Republics – is allowed to run rampant within our own streets, towns, and cities, we will surely face ruin.
Part of paying close attention to what’s happening is looking at the policies of those who carry the banner for these decaying ideologies. These policies paint an equally concerning picture. The Council of Economic Advisors released a pointed analysis that details the true cost of the proposals of the Democratic Socialists of America and how they will bankrupt the nation and lead to financial ruin for American families. Here are a few examples from the analysis:
$49 TRILLION in projected additional federal deficits over the next decade.
$355,000 PER HOUSEHOLD in equivalent ten-year fiscal costs.
$22,000 IN LESS TAKE-HOME PAY: The analysis projects this annual reduction per worker if the agenda is financed through higher taxes.
12%+ MORTGAGE RATES: The analysis projects this outcome if the agenda is financed through borrowing.
The facts could not be clearer. Socialism cannot be allowed to take root here in our nation. Our Republican majorities understand this, and we continue to fight back with commonsense policies that put the interests of America first. You can rest assured that I will remain a strong, unwavering voice in this fight – the future of our Republic should always be protected from the forces and failed ideologies that seek to dismantle it entirely.
Important Reminder
Next Friday, October 30th, is the deadline for service academy nominations through my office. There are five Service Academies: The United States Air Force (USAFA), Naval (USNA), Military (USMA), Merchant Marine (USMMA), and Coast Guard (USCGA) Academies. Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, to which appointments are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated from an authorized person including a Member of the United States Senate or the House of Representatives. Applicants who are legally domiciled within the boundaries of the 5th District of North Carolina are eligible for my nomination.

A Welcome Development
This week, the Social Security Administration announced that it has completed the largest Social Security Number (SSN) cleanup in the agency’s 91-year history. Nearly 50 million records – almost 15% of all SSNs for American citizens, have been corrected thus far. This is a serious, positive win for accountability, and yet another good development in our unified efforts in Washington to expose and confront fraud. The American people deserve a Social Security system that is accurate, holds a high degree of integrity, and one that always adheres to good governance.

Quote of The Week
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
