The past two weeks I have been traveling around the Fifth District holding meetings and visiting businesses and organizations.

Many people think that legislators take vacation when Congress holds District Work Periods, but that’s far from true! Living in the most beautiful place in the world and making sure that the federal government works for the American people is an honor and duty that never rests, so neither do I. Being in touch with those I represent at home is every bit as important as the work I do in Washington and much more inspiring. Here are some snapshots of recent conversations.

Great turn out this Monday at the U.S. Service Academy Day at Wilkes Community College! Was wonderful to see so many high school students exploring these opportunities for education and service to our country. If you couldn’t attend the information session but are interested in learning about the U.S. Service Academies, resources are available on my website.

Toured the Food Lion Store and met with the store’s executives and personnel to learn about the impact of the WIC program in Boone.

Went to an art gallery in downtown Sparta.

Spoke with the Farm Bureau in Wilkesboro at its agriculture meet and greet breakfast.

Visited Chambers of Commerce in Sparta and Mount Airy where I met with Randy Collins and Carol Burke.

Attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rock Creek Marketplace in Wilkesboro.
