I’ve had a great few weeks travelling the Fifth District! Before the House resumes its legislative business next week, I want to share some recent snapshots from my activities during District Work Period.
Grandfather Nature Center Groundbreaking
Public Officials Day at Calvary Baptist Church in Elkin
Smith Phillips Customer Appreciation Day in Winston-Salem

Spotlight on Young Leaders |
Carolina Country featured Hope Gambill, Paloma Garcia, Molly Kirkland and Zoe Schell on their trip to DC for the NC Electric Cooperative Youth Tour! These young women earned that opportunity by demonstrating scholastic excellence and community involvement.
The House of Representatives will be back in session in Washington, DC next week to debate legislation pertaining to oil and gas development in our nation’s interior and off our nation’s coasts. Careful drilling is an integral part of a broad strategy for U.S. energy independence. Furthermore, oil and gas leases have sustained the Land and Water Conservation Fund that has been important for managing federal lands for nearly two decades. It shouldn't be viewed as a zero-sum game for the environment, and I look forward to debating a commonsense policy next week. Have a blessed weekend.
Sincerely,
