Instead of letting bureaucracy run free from its leash, and pushing the country in the wrong direction, the federal government should be putting the interests of the American people first. Bending to radical political agendas is entirely unacceptable. As I travel across the Fifth District, I speak with proud North Carolinians who tell me that they’re terrified of the direction our country is headed – how our time-tested institutions are being attacked and undermined. They fear that their freedoms and livelihoods are under threat like never before, and they’re concerned for the futures of their children and grandchildren.

In my newsletter to you last week, I laid out five tenets of the Republican Commitment to America, our unified initiative to get the country back on track and serve the American people the right way. One of the tenets I mentioned was “Reinforce oversight and hold government agencies accountable”. Don’t you think that this administration should answer to the people for its gross mismanagement of our country? What about rooting out corruption and abuses of power? How about increasing transparency so that the facts on important issues are laid bare for everyone to see? That’s what we believe.

Over the past year and a half, our God-given constitutional rights are under assault by a government that believes it can press its thumb down on Americans whenever it likes. Our government should never be in the business of cherry-picking which freedoms to preserve and which to cast aside. Republicans will fight to preserve these rights by:

  • Upholding and protecting free speech and religious liberty.
  • Defending the unborn and protecting Supreme Court justices and pro-life organizations targeted by destruction and violence.
  • Safeguarding the Second Amendment and stopping the targeting of law-abiding citizens.

Republicans stand ready to deliver real solutions to the American people, and on day one, we’ll do just that.

Premiums Under Obamacare

Former President Obama’s government takeover of our healthcare system has caused real harm to Americans, and the evidence is plain as day. Next year, premiums under Obamacare are set to skyrocket, and small businesses will be pummeled as a result. For example, according to the Wall Street Journal, premiums for small businesses in New York are projected to increase as much as 46%. As I’ve said many times before, Obamacare was a disastrous endeavor from the very start, and it should have never been allowed to see the light of day.

NASCAR Is Coming Back

On May 21st, 2023, NASCAR’s All-Star Race will return to North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first time in more than a quarter century. Since its inception in 1947, North Wilkesboro Speedway has hosted 93 NASCAR cup races and has attracted household names from Richard Petty to Dale Earnhardt Senior. NASCAR’s return to this historic track – its former stomping grounds – is a testament to the rich history of motorsports in Western North Carolina. Generations of North Carolinians and motorsports enthusiasts from around the country will gather and watch history be made next year in the 5th district.

Celebrating Constitution Day

Tomorrow, we celebrate the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. On September 17th, 1787, 39 patriots signed their names to a document that has become one of the most recognized symbols of freedom throughout history. It establishes America as a nation that’s deeply rooted in the rule of law and where the government derives its limited powers from the consent of the governed. As a member of the United States Congress, I consider it an honor and a sacred duty to uphold the Constitution in representing the citizens of North Carolina’s Fifth District. It will always serve as my guide, and I will never abandon it.

Have a blessed weekend,
