Foxx Report

The men and women of law enforcement, both in the 5th District and across North Carolina, deserve our unwavering support every day. They put themselves in harm’s way to protect our families, communities and way of life. Simply put, they are the gatekeepers of law and order, and we owe them a profound debt of gratitude. This week officially marks National Police Week, and I hope you will join me in honoring these heroes.

Sadly, America’s police officers are facing a new wave of crime that has been brought about through dangerous “defund the police” rhetoric coming from Washington. Major cities across our country have been overwhelmed by skyrocketing crime rates. Smash-and-grab robberies have grown too commonplace. The rate of carjackings continues to grow. Annual homicides are now reaching new heights.

When we think about what this means for our country and law enforcement officers, we must look at the numbers:

  • 73 police officers across the country lost their lives last year.
  • There have been 25 ambush-style attacks on LEO’s this year alone.
  • Departments nationwide are shot seven percent of filling positions.
  • Law enforcement retirements have hovered close to 45%.

According to the FBI, there were more police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during President Biden’s first year in officer than any year since 1995. Further, they lost their lives in ambush-style or unprovoked attacks. This is truly heartbreaking.

As I have said before, law enforcement officers are the gatekeepers of law and order. I am incredibly grateful every day that these men and women are keeping watch over our communities and that they understand the monumental commitment they make in serving. This week, and every week for that matter, we should commend these men and women for the innumerable sacrifices they continue to make.

My position is clear: I will always back the blue and stand with law enforcement. They have my full support!

National Charter School Week

On Tuesday, I took to the floor of the People’s House to recognize National Charter School Week and the importance of school choice in our country. America’s children deserve an education that empowers them to reach their greatest potential. By providing families with the freedom to choose the best educational options that meet their child’s unique needs, these young men and women will be equipped with the tools they need to achieve their dreams. It is undeniable that school choice is paramount.

ICYMI: My Recent Op-Ed with Senator Burr

The Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness agenda includes forcing taxpayers who never went to college to foot the bill. President Biden is recklessly pushing our economy towards a fiscal cliff—all to swindle more votes for the midterms and to save his failing presidency. In my recent op-ed with Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), the Republican leader of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, we call out the Biden administration for sacrificing taxpayers to buy off progressives with another student loan repayment pause.

Quote of The Week

“The backbone of our nation’s domestic defense against terrorist attacks will continue to be the men and women in local law enforcement and emergency services.”

– Former U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss
