Nineteen years ago, on September 11th, our nation was shaken to its very core as we witnessed what can be only described as heinous acts that blatantly disregarded the sanctity of human life. We remember exactly where we were when the news broke about the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93. But amid that fear and uncertainty, countless Americans – without a second of hesitation or doubt – made the decision to sacrifice their lives to protect others. They ran towards danger knowing that the circumstances they faced were perilous, but they did so with a profound sense of duty and a deeply rooted love for a country that meant so much to them. On a day when fear was intended to prevail, America became more unified than ever before.
Firefighters, police officers, medical professionals, members of the military, and everyday Americans responded when the United States needed them the most, and their heroism has left an indelible mark within the hearts of millions. Generations to come will learn of their selfless acts of courage, and they too will understand that same sense of duty and pride. When those brave Americans rushed towards danger, not once did they let political persuasions or ideologies influence their actions. They acted out of compassion and a calling that was greater than their own.
That day prompted a new generation of protectors: airmen, marines, soldiers, sailors and guardsmen. They rose in the defense of freedom and the fundamental idea that America remains a shining city upon a hill. As we commemorate the 19th anniversary of September 11th, we pray for the families who lost loved ones on that day. We recognize the countless Americans who led the charge to save lives even if it meant putting themselves in harms way. We honor the men and women who – in their last moments – were committed to protecting the country that they loved.
The thousands of Americans stationed across the world must also be acknowledged and commended. The mission that began on September 11th continues to this day: safeguard the promise of a country that holds unbridled opportunity and prosperity. As peacekeepers of our way of life, the men and women of the armed services deserve our profound appreciation for the sacrifices they make in the name of freedom. This morning, families across the country are gathered at their kitchen tables reflecting on that day, and they continue to hold the same hope, grit, and pride that encapsulates the true essence of the American spirit.
America is the greatest country in the world, and we’re blessed to wake up every day in a land teeming with prosperity, opportunities, and freedoms that are second to none.
Have a blessed weekend.
Sincerely,
