If you’ve turned on the news lately, you’ve likely heard about the important public health endeavor that’s being led by President Trump and the Administration: Operation Warp Speed. However, the media, in its typical fashion, fails to give you the facts. The fractured commentary that’s provided does little to highlight the unprecedented progress that has been made by scientists and medical professionals across the United States. This is important news, and you deserve to have the full picture.

At the outset of our conversation today, the record must be corrected. A new narrative has been circulating that vaccines produced under Operation Warp Speed are being approved without extensive testing or proven reliability. That narrative is unequivocally false. A vaccine will be approved only once it has passed rigorous testing, clinical trials, and has been proven to be both safe and effective. Unverified vaccines are not being approved with the snap of a finger.

The federal government has already invested over $10 billion to support the development of a vaccine in a process that has never been seen before. Operation Warp Speed is intended to accelerate the timeline of vaccine production while maximizing the probability of delivering a safe and effective candidate. The term “Operation Warp Speed” is a direct reflection of President Trump’s urgency in this process. The private sector continues to match that same level of urgency, and many large companies have accelerated their operations to develop a viable vaccine in record time.

President Trump and the Administration are working to ensure that a viable vaccine is found and that the American people are protected. The talking heads of the mainstream media will claim the contrary, and they’re failing to tell you the truth. Clinical trials are also proceeding at a quickened pace. This means that manufacturing doses of potential vaccine candidates and clinical trials are conducted simultaneously. Keep in mind that many vaccines – and subsequent clinical trials – can take many years to complete.

The Republican Commitment To America

On Tuesday, I joined GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and my Republican colleagues on the steps of the Capitol to unveil the Republican Commitment To America. Nancy Pelosi’s failed leadership, along with misguided Democrat policies, have eroded the fabric of our country, and Republicans refuse to sit on the sidelines. That’s why we developed a comprehensive blueprint to get our country back on track. The American people deserve leadership that fights for freedom, the values we hold dear, and the promise of the American dream.

Our message is simple: restoring, renewing, and rebuilding America is a mandate that we must work every day to meet. We’re fighting for families, for the next generation of Americans, and for a country that has always been a beacon of hope around the world. The Democrat policies that seek to defund, destroy, and dismantle are unacceptable and quite frankly, they pose a threat the liberties and freedoms that define the America we know and love.

H.R. 2574, The Equity and Inclusion Enforcement Act

House Democrats are advancing legislation they falsely characterize as an education bill. In reality, it’s a bill that radically rewrites the Civil Rights Act without any debate. Specifically, it creates a private right of action, which could lead to additional burdens on school systems and does nothing to eliminate the state’s ability to trap students in low-performing schools. This is the wrong approach.

The outstanding flaw in this legislation, that I refused to overlook, was that there were no expressed racial or discrimination protections for those of the Jewish faith. On September 11th, 2019, President Trump issued an Executive Order establishing the policy of the Executive Branch to consider the discrimination of Jewish people to be illegal discrimination under Title VI when such discrimination is based on an individual’s race, color, or national origin.

If the House of Representatives were to pass this legislation, without extending those crucial protections, we would be missing an important opportunity to condemn and combat anti-Semitism. That’s why I introduced an amendment on that issue. Democrats balked at the opportunity to include this important amendment in their original bill, and I requested a Motion to Recommit with instructions.

In short, a Motion to Recommit (MTR) provides one final opportunity for the House of Representatives to debate and amend a measure before the Speaker orders a final vote on a bill. If an MTR is passed “with instructions”, the bill is amended and then voted on. Thankfully, my MTR was passed, and H.R. 2574 now includes my amendment to protect those of the Jewish faith from discrimination. This is an undeniable victory, and one that sends a clear message that the House of Representatives stands with our Jewish allies across the country.
