Over the last thirty-one years, families, individuals, and businesses have spent billions of man hours and dollars – time and money that they seldom can afford – to comply with a burdensome tax code. This week, the House took steps to significantly reduce this burden on taxpayers and create more jobs, bigger paychecks, and fairer taxes for all. By passing H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, my colleagues in the House and I acted to ensure that Americans at all income levels will receive desperately needed relief from a convoluted tax code.

How Do North Carolinians Benefit from the House Tax Cuts and Jobs Act?
The U.S. Chamber has put together some great resources that detail just how much North Carolinian individuals, families, and businesses will benefit from the House Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The United States Senate has introduced its version of a tax relief bill as well and, when Congress returns from Thanksgiving holidays, the two chambers will likely meet in a conference to hammer out a final conference report to present to the President for his signature.

National Bible Week
In 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated the first National Bible Week. Since that declaration, this week has been observed and celebrated by Americans every year.
For thousands of years, the Bible has been a God-given source of guidance, comfort, and strength for humanity. During times of turmoil and strife, I can think of no more important source of guidance than the wisdom included in the Good Book. This week, I spoke about National Bible week on the House floor. Everyday Heroes
Ashe County is home to some very impressive people, and this week I commended one in particular. Mrs. Maggie McNeill, a dedicated nurse at Ashe Memorial Hospital, risked flood waters and a downed tree – and with the assistance of her father –overcame all obstacles to get to work to help deliver two babies. I consider Mrs. McNeill to be an everyday hero and spoke about her efforts this week. The Ashe County community and future generations of the Ashe County are blessed by Mrs. McNeill’s dedication to her calling. Watch:

What’s Coming Up
Next week the House will not be in session in observance of Thanksgiving. Please be on the lookout for a special Thanksgiving message from me. Tom and I wish you a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.
