Foxx Report for the Week of November 27, 2017 |
|
With six million unfilled jobs and over a trillion dollars in student debt, there can be no doubt that it’s time for America to prosper again. To do so, we must first admit a hard truth – many promises made by higher education to students and families have not been kept. As the Chairwoman for the Committee of Education and the Workforce, I take the need to reform this broken system very seriously. We need a higher education system that is designed to meet the needs of today’s students and one that will prepare them for tomorrow’s workforce opportunities.
That’s why I have introduced H.R. 4508, the Promoting Real Opportunity, Success, and Prosperity through Education Reform (PROSPER) Act.

When the PROSPER Act passes, students and parents will be equipped with a simplified student aid process, and will be better able to make informed decisions about the future. To learn more about my efforts to reform our broken higher education system, please click the image below.
An Ally and a Friend
The United States is blessed to have many allies around the world. Of these allies, there can be no doubt that Israel is our greatest friend and closest ally in the Middle East. The strong relationship which our two countries enjoy is vital to American interests at home and abroad. Israel and the United States are intrinsically linked through our shared values, intelligence sharing, and resolve in combatting terrorism.
As a member of the House Oversight and Government Committee, I joined several of my colleagues applauding the Trump Administration on its strong defense of Israel, and for its consideration of moving the United States embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to the capital of Jerusalem. Moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem will show the world that we will continue to support Israel – and its rightful capital – in perpetuity.

What’s Coming Up Next
Next week, Congress is expected to continue its work in reforming our tax code to bring about a simpler, fairer tax code that promotes economic expansion, job growth, bigger paychecks and much needed tax relief. The House is expected to vote to begin the process of resolving differences between the House and Senate tax reform packages.
Sincerely,
