Foxx Report for the Week of January 8, 2018

While millions across the country are celebrating the New Year, hardworking American taxpayers have something else to celebrate – the new tax code. I am thankful that my House Republican colleagues and I made good on our promise to deliver a tax code that will yield more jobs, fairer taxes, and higher wages.

Many Democrats claimed that the tax reform effort was a tax scam that would only profit the rich. These baseless claims are the very epitome of fake news, and nothing could be further from the truth.

The list of companies nationwide that have announced pay raises, bonuses, and 401(k) contributions is growing. Right now more than a million Americans have received bonuses, which according to public announcements total at least $1,578,260,000, as a result of our efforts to reform the tax code. Additionally, as a result of the recently passed tax reform package energy companies across the nation, like Pepco in Washington, DC and Eversource in Massachusetts, are able to lower their costs and have announced their intentions to pass on savings to consumers. This week I spoke on the House Floor about the Tax Cuts & Jobs act to watch my remarks click here:

5th District in Focus

As the Chairwoman of the House Committee on Education & the Workforce, I know that lifelong learning is essential to the American Dream. On January 4th, I was pleased to visit the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC). This institution has partnered with the Affinity Living Group in order to help students develop the job skills they need to find employment upon graduation. Bipartisanship

The media often portrays our nation as one split evenly along partisan lines, but the reality is that life in Congress looks a lot different. This Wednesday night, I was blessed to attend a preview of the movie, I Can Only Imagine with colleagues from both sides of the aisle along with Vice President Pence and his wife, Karen. It was an incredible Christian movie and reminder for us to put our faith and trust in God. We concluded the evening together with reflection and prayer for God to help us work together to deliver His will for the great country we represent.

What’s Coming Up:

Next week, the House will vote on legislation to protect the lives of survivors of botched abortions. As the Capitol celebrates the March for Life, the House will continue to stand for life – for both the born and unborn – by debating the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Sincerely,
