Foxx Report

Years ago, there were many members of Congress who warned of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) compromising the integrity of institutions of higher education across the United States. Fast forward to present day, and those warnings have become a reality. Professors have been bought and paid for by the Chinese government, critical research has been stolen, and covert propaganda campaigns have operated through what are known as Confucius Institutes. Universities have become vulnerable to the CCP’s agenda, and it’s time that this issue is confronted with both force and facts.

It was recently revealed that one of these Confucius Institutes that operated on Columbia University’s campus was recently dissolved after nearly a decade of activity. It was discovered that while this Institute was active, Columbia University failed to disclose that the Chinese government had funneled $1 million to the university. In fact, part of that money was allocated to a professor who was a direct adviser to the propaganda arm of the CCP through the Confucius Institute. This is no mere coincidence, and more stories are coming to light.

The threat of increased propaganda is also a growing concern. One of the things that Republicans in Congress are sounding the alarm on is how American students are being led to believe that communists in China are good people, and how communism in and of itself is a political ideology that’s inherently benevolent. We know that to be unequivocally false, and that communism is nothing more than a cancer that has ravaged both countries and societies over the course of centuries. In America, communism has never had a seat at the table, and it never should.

Recently, I was interviewed by Fox News on how the CCP continues to operate in higher education, and why it’s important that we confront its agenda immediately. China has continued to pour money into universities across this country, and the true cash totals are still unknown. That fact alone should concern everyone. Now is the time for the United States to stand up to China, reject its divisive regime and protect the integrity of higher education in this country.

Surprise Medical Billing Update

Last week, the Biden Administration released an interim final rule that implements the bipartisan legislation passed by Congress last year to ban surprise out-of-network medical billing.

For far too long, unexpected medical bills have been a significant financial and emotional hardship for sick and suffering Americans. I’m encouraged that the Biden administration is working in a timely manner to issue regulatory guidance on the No Surprises Act that was passed with bi-partisan support under President Trump. During these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to ensure that we are doing all we can to uplift the American people and their families. I hope that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle are ready to work together to ensure that this new rule succeeds in shielding patients from surprise medical bills and saves hard earned taxpayer dollars.

I look forward to the administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure that surprise medical billing is ended once and for all.

Local Spotlight

Recently, two high school members of the Shelby American Legion Post 82 were selected to participate in the Boys Nation Program in Washington. This is the first time that the Shelby American Legion Post 82 has ever had two candidates selected to this prestigious educational program. Robert Stockham of Pinnacle Classical Academy and Zachary Morrow of Burns High School will spend one week in Washington learning about the structure and function of the federal government.

This opportunity through the American Legion is important, and I’m confident that these two men will make the most of this experience. To read more about their story, click here to read an article from the Shelby Star.
