Foxx Report

Families in the 5th District cannot afford President Biden’s so-called “Build Back Better” agenda when they’re forced to pay more for nearly everything! As we transition into the winter months, citizens living in the High Country and in western North Carolina overall will see the costs of heating their houses – and keeping their families warm – reach outrageous heights. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, household heating bills are projected to jump by over 54% this year. It’s undeniable that families should never find themselves in this kind of position.

If you live in a home that uses natural gas for heat, you will be affected as well. Nearly half of the homes in the United States use natural gas as the primary source of heating for their homes during the winter. Families who rely on natural gas could pay an average of $746 this winter. That cost is up more than 30% compared to last year. This also means that natural-gas heated homes could be hit with price hikes that we have not seen since 2008-2009.

Let’s focus on families that rely on electricity and heating oil as well so that we can see the impact of inflation on a wider scale. Families relying on electricity for heating will see a 6% increase in costs to around $1,268 and heating oil is projected to see a 43% increase (north of $500) to around $1,734. The blame for these unthinkable price hikes is to be put squarely on President Biden’s inflation crisis that has grown every month of his presidency. I’ve kept a close eye on how inflation has overtaken America, and how the 5th District is being hit hard because of irresponsible spending and policies that are streaming out of Washington.

Every day, I think about how members of my family, and many families across the Fifth District, are forced to bear the burden of rising prices, how many people are scratching off items on their grocery lists they simply can’t afford any more, and the anger that comes every day from the gas pump to the grocery store. I’m fighting in Washington to put an end the policies that got us here in the first place, and I do so because I know that you deserve better, your families deserve better, and the country that we are proud to call home deserves better.

Defending Victims of Sexual Assault

This week, Representative Mary Miller (R-IL) joined me in sending a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding transparency surrounding the agency’s reinterpretation of Title IX, which puts students at greater risk of sexual assault. It’s clear that the Department of Education’s misguided interpretation of Title IX endangers young girls by putting their rights and needs second to the political agenda of the Biden administration. Here’s a short excerpt of our letter:

“The lack of transparency regarding the safety of children at school is alarming. Parents should know what is happening in their schools and have confidence that school administrators are keeping their children safe… We know that we cannot stop all cases of assault in our schools, but we should take commonsense precautions to work together with parents to protect our children.”

My Latest Op-Ed

Since when has the federal government been the primary stakeholder in the education of America’s children? That role has always been held by parents, and not by bureaucrats with a divisive agenda of corrupting the minds of America’s future leaders. Parents should never be relegated to the sidelines when it comes to making decisions on their children’s education and advocating for improvements. We need to elevate the voices of these parents and protect their right to be at the center of their child’s educational decision-making.

In an op-ed published by Fox News this week, Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and I lay out the case as to why Washington Democrats want to control the education of millions of students and how Republicans are fighting to put parents in the driver’s seat. To read our joint op-ed, click here.
