Foxx Report

The federal government needs to stop sticking its nose in places it doesn’t belong. Think about the past ten months and how the size and scope of the federal government has expanded like a balloon being overinflated with helium. This is a terrifying reality that so many people in the 5th District are facing, and it should never have come to this point. I have some news to share with you today that will help illustrate this point.

Under an early version of Nancy Pelosi’s and President Biden’s budget reconciliation legislation, banking institutions would be mandated to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) “all deposits and withdrawals” of more than $600 in all bank accounts of Americans. Read that sentence one more time. That’s right, if you bought a new refrigerator or even a new car, the IRS would be the first to know. Where is the respect for the Constitution and the right to privacy for hardworking taxpayers like yourself?

You will be pleased to know that I voted on September 29th in favor of a "motion to commit" that would effectively prohibit the Treasury from implementing this absurd invasion of privacy into practice. In short, a “motion to commit” sends a measure to a committee or set of committees for further review. This motion acts as a safeguard so that more time for consideration is given to a piece of legislation rather than proceeding to an immediate vote to pass it.

I will state to you unequivocally that I will never cast a vote supporting the socialist and dangerous policies of the new radical left. This IRS provision is yet another example of egregious overreach by the federal government against law-abiding citizens. I have always stood for what makes this country great, and nothing will change that.

Local Spotlight

North Carolina’s Fifth District has a strong reputation for producing nationally recognized Christmas trees. The Fifth District is one of the premiere Christmas tree providers in the entire country, and that accolade was on full display as the White House came to Ashe County to pick out a Fraser fir from Peak Farms. Rusty and Beau Estes, the owners of Peak Farms, are no strangers to the national spotlight. In 2008 and 2012, they provided Christmas trees to the White House, and in 2018, they were awarded the opportunity to provide a Christmas tree to the residence of Vice President Mike Pence. Since 1961, a total of 14 trees have been sourced directly from North Carolina to be displayed in the White House’s Blue Room.

Congratulations to both Rusty and Beau on this terrific accomplishment!

Cash-For-Kids Handout

In America, we have a long-established principle of working to earn our keep. We take pride in a hard day’s work, and we understand its value. Unfortunately, that principle is at risk of becoming lost because of welfare expansion policies like the Child Tax Credit that are being pushed by the majority in Congress. Did you know that through the Child Tax Credit, people are sitting at home collecting thousands of dollars every month without the requirement of working? It’s nonsensical, and according to a recent study from the University of Chicago, expanding the Child Tax Credit would lead to 1.5 million men and women leaving the workforce.
