Education freedom is alive and well in our great nation thanks to the work of President Trump, Education Secretary McMahon, and our Republican majorities in Congress. Education freedom continues to expand, parental rights are being restored after years of assault by hyper-partisan bureaucrats and activists, education decision-making authority is being returned to the states where it belongs, and American students, most importantly, are being put first. This is how it should always be in our nation – anything less is wholly unacceptable in my view.

Right now, students are returning to classrooms across the nation and continuing their respective educational journeys. It’s a special time of the year for so many families with children of all ages. It’s important that we look at the progress that has been achieved thus far to show the positive impact that commonsense policies have on families and students. Here’s a quick snapshot with facts courtesy of the White House:

• The Working Families Tax Cuts Act created the first-ever nationwide school choice program, delivering a federal Education Freedom Tax Credit of up to $1,700 for scholarships covering tuition, books, and other costs at private and public schools.
• The Trump Administration delivered $500 million through the Charter Schools Program to expand high-quality education options nationwide for families and students.
• $2 billion in wasteful “diversity, equity, and inclusion” programs was eliminated so that the focus on student success would be one that unites them through merit and excellence.
• President Trump signed an Executive Order that blocks biological boys from girls’ sports and private spaces in schools across the nation.

Again, these are the kinds of results you can expect when commonsense conservative policies are implemented and the woke, corrosive ideology of the far-left is sent to detention where it belongs. Our unified Republican majorities, President Trump, and Secretary McMahon will continue to deliver wins for American students and families. Great progress has already been made, and there’s much more work to do. This is the way.

An Interesting Read

I came across a very interesting article this week in Townhall that I want to share with you. Tom Purcell, a contributor to Townhall, recently wrote about how Gen Z and Millennials are turning to handwritten letters – as opposed to digital mediums – to communicate with friends, family, and others. Nothing compares to a handwritten letter, and I write many every week to my colleagues, friends, family, and many other people. It is something we should all strive to do, and a way of communicating that deserves to remain alive and well.

A Reminder

As I called your attention to last week, the 5^th District’s annual U.S. Service Academy Day will be held on Saturday, September 12th, from 1-3PM at Surry Community College’s Elkin Center at 1461 N Bridge St, Elkin, NC  28621. Representatives from all five U.S. Service Academies will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on their respective application processes. This event is open to all students, parents, counselors, and educators in North Carolina’s 5th District.
