Americans are experiencing something they have not seen since the Reagan Administration: a permanent reduction in their tax rates. That’s right, in the last 40 years, our nation has seen only temporary tax cuts – but thanks to our Republican majorities and President Trump, that has changed for the better. The transformational progress that we have brought about through the Working Families Tax Cuts is producing tangible results for hardworking Americans across the nation, and during this tax season, those results have been felt and realized. Taxes have been lowered, bigger refunds are being issued, and more money is returning to the pockets of hardworking Americans in every state.

At the core of the Working Families Tax Cuts is common sense policy that’s designed to help the American people flourish. Want proof? Here are just a few examples. This revolutionary legislation, now law:

• Slashed taxes for North Carolinians by up to 27%.
  
• Created newborn savings accounts with $1,000 already invested.
  
• Increased the Standard Deduction.
  
• Boosted take-home pay by up to $11,700.
  
• Doubled the Child Tax Credit.

And let’s not forget that if the Working Families Tax Cuts were not passed, the hardworking men and women across the country would have shouldered the largest tax increase in our nation’s history. The consequences of that happening would have been disastrous. Thankfully, that is not the case. I believe, as my Republican colleagues do, that the American people should keep more of their hard-earned money, and not be forced to fork it over to Uncle Sam. This tax season the American people are experiencing the positive change that they so deserve.

The Postal Service

Following my newsletter to you on March 20^th – in which I detailed my thoughts on how poorly the United States Postal Service is serving the American people – I have heard from many constituents about the various issues and delays that they have experienced. Believe me, I have experienced many of these same nagging issues myself, and I am far from pleased with how they are being handled. The information that has been relayed to me is concerning and entirely unacceptable, and I’m keeping a running record of the problems that have been brought to my attention. I strongly encourage you to call my Boone District Office at (828) 265-0240, or write to me directly, if you are experiencing glaring issues with the Postal Service – my dedicated staff can look into these matters and work to assist. As I have shared with you before, the failure of the USPS is something that I will continue to call attention to, and demand answers every step of the way. 

A Piece of American History

As part of the ongoing celebrations of our nation’s 250^th anniversary, America250 is leading the development of America’s Time Capsule, a once-in-a-generation national record. On July 4^th, this time capsule will be buried at Independence National Historical Park in Pennsylvania. The time capsule will be sealed for 250 years and will be reopened in 2276 when America celebrates its 500^th anniversary. Contained within the time capsule will be various letters from across the United States and its territories – alongside different artifacts and other submissions that tell the story of our nation as we reach this important milestone.
