Yesterday, President Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of North Carolina which triggers the release of federal assistance to help communities recover from Tropical Storm Michael. I’m pleased that North Carolina’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration was given fair consideration and public assistance will be delivered to Surry, Stokes, Forsyth and Yadkin Counties in North Carolina’s Fifth District. It is my hope that the state recovers fully and quickly and am thankful for the work being done on the ground by State Representative Sarah Stevens and others facilitating the assistance delivery. If there are questions about the Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, please reach out to my office for resources and information.
Halting Political Robocalls |
Every election season Americans are inundated with pre-recorded campaign calls that flood their home phone lines. On Monday, I introduced H.R. 805, the Robo Calls Off Phones Act (Robo COP Act) to make politicians play by the same rules as everyone else who makes robocalls. The bill directs the Federal Trade Commission to revise its regulations regarding the National Do Not Call registry to prohibit automated campaign messages from dialing telephone numbers on the national registry. Just as individuals are able to opt out of unsolicited sales calls, they should have the right to opt out of receiving campaign robocalls. Watch my interview with WFMY about the Robo Cop Act here.
