Foxx Report

With recent revelations of a secret agreement with the United Nations that allows Iran to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms, it is clear the government in Tehran has no intention of giving up its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The proposed nuclear deal that the United States and other world powers reached with Iran in July only delays Iran’s path to a nuclear bomb and further empowers the world’s largest state sponsor of terror, which is why I have agreed to cosponsor H.J. Res. 64, the resolution disapproving of the proposed deal.

Like Israel, our greatest ally in the region, the United States cannot tolerate a nuclear regime in Iran. It gives me great concern that President Obama and Secretary Kerry would risk the continued existence of Israel and the stability of the Middle East in order to win praise for renewed engagement with Iran. Unfortunately, the president views a nuclear agreement with Iran as a part of his legacy and will do anything to protect this deal, even at the expense of national security and the regional stability in the Middle East.

With my colleagues in Congress, I will do everything in my power to stop any deal that does not prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons capabilities and allow international inspectors to validate Iran's adherence to the negotiated terms.

Purple Heart Ceremony

On August 4th, I was honored to present U.S. Marine Corps veteran Brett Bush of Ashe County with the Purple Heart, a medal given to members of the military wounded or killed by enemy action or in action against the enemy. Sgt. Bush served eight years as a U.S. Marine, earning the rank of sergeant, and was wounded in Afghanistan on Nov. 26, 2010, during his third tour. He was sworn in as a trooper for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in January 2015 and serves in Forsyth County.

It is always an honor to assist veterans, and it was a privilege to help Sgt. Bush obtain the Purple Heart that he earned for his service. America’s troops do not take risks for their own gain. They do so for others – for their colleagues, for their families and for their country. Liberty is bought and paid for by the incomprehensible generosity of patriots like Sgt. Bush, who has continued to serve the public good by helping maintain the safety of the highways of North Carolina.

What’s Coming Up

During the next two weeks, I look forward to traveling around North Carolina’s 5th District and hearing from you. The House returns to Washington on September 8th with a full agenda, including consideration of the resolution I have cosponsored to reject the Iran nuclear deal and additional government reform legislation. In addition, I look forward to legislative action to ensure Planned Parenthood can no longer obtain grants from federal agencies or Medicaid reimbursements from the states, blocking it from receiving all of the federal funding it currently has access to.

Sincerely,
