To the surprise of no one, “Bidenomics” continues to sputter and fail – the numbers continue to confirm this, and they certainly do not lie. Just last month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) a key index related to inflation, came in “hotter than expected”. It revealed that the annual rate of inflation jumped by 3.1%. Since President Biden took office, overall prices for commodities that American families rely on have jumped by 17.9%. For some added context, when he took office, inflation was sitting at just 1.4%.

This inflationary spike has been driven by out-of-control government spending and policies that only serve to hurt the American people. Reining in these spending binges has been a top priority for House Republicans, and I want to share with you some of the actions that I’ve taken to achieve this end. I’ve recently voted in favor of amendments to the Fiscal Year 2024, State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations (SFOPS) package – that remains in progress – to cut wasteful spending. Here are just a few examples of amendments that I was proud to support:

  • H.Amdt.439, to reduce funding by 50% for the United States Agency for International Development.
  • H.Amdt.442, to reduce funds apportioned to the United States Agency for International Development by $4.5 billion and transfer to the Spending Reduction Account.
  • H.Amdt.446, to transfer $14.3 million from the Peace Corps budget to the Spending Reduction Account.
  • H.Amdt.447, to reduce funding by $10,000,000 for the Global Environment Facility Fund.
  • H.Amdt.457, to prohibit funds from being used to implement the Paris Climate Agreement.

While American families are being forced to spend $11,400 more per year because of inflation, the very last place that we should be spending money is on more foreign assistance like the examples I’ve listed above for you. Here’s the bottom line, our nation’s fiscal house is in a state of deep disrepair and Americans are the ones who are feeling it the most. Rest assured that I will always push back against wasteful spending binges in Washington – the American people deserve far better than the President’s failed economic policies.

We Remain Undeterred

Harvard has failed to produce priority documents related to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce’s ongoing antisemitism investigation – and I’ve issued a series of subpoenas in response. I am extremely disappointed in the path that Harvard has chosen to take in regard to the Committee’s investigation. Over the course of this investigation, Harvard has touted its willingness to work with the Committee, citing the thousands of pages of documents it has produced. But, of the 2,516 pages of documents Harvard has produced in response to the Committee’s antisemitism inquiry to date, at least 1,032—over 40 percent—were already publicly available. It is my hope that these subpoenas serve as a wakeup call to Harvard that Congress will not tolerate antisemitic hate in its classrooms or on campus.

Enforce The Existing Laws

In case you missed it, I recently called attention to how the Biden administration is failing to enforce the laws that are already on the books to secure the southern border. Under President Trump, we had a secure border, but now, everything has changed. Over seven million illegal crossings at the southern border have occurred, and nearly two million illegal “gotaways” have escaped into the United States. The time to secure the border is now – no more delays or obstruction!

Quote of The Week

“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”

-Thomas Jefferson
