Time has certainly flown by, and 2023 is now nearly at a close. Since the beginning of the 118th Congress, House Republicans have been hard at work making good on the promises we made to the American people. To date, we have held 866 hearings, received testimony 832 times from Biden administration officials, sent 1,331 oversight letters, and issued 89 subpoenas. Additionally, we have passed 70 pieces of legislation that cover the four core pillars of our Commitment to America:

  • An Economy That’s Strong
  • A Nation That’s Safe
  • A Future That’s Built On Freedom
  • A Government That’s Accountable

What’s more, my work in serving you has continued without delay. Below are a handful of pieces of legislation that I have led since the beginning of this year that I want to call your attention to:

Blocking Travel to Clinton Global Initiative Events

The Fiscal Year 2024, State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations (SFOPS) package included my amendment to prevent State Department employees from traveling to, or attending, events hosted by the Clinton Global Initiative. Given the State Department’s enmeshment with the Clintons and the Initiative, the need for my amendment is as clear as day. Americans simply cannot afford more radical policies purveyed by an organization that allows the global elite to buy and influence American foreign policy.

The Chance to Compete Act

The Chance to Compete Act of 2023 builds upon a record of bipartisan support and proven success in codifying key skills-based hiring reforms. My legislation is specifically crafted to give federal agencies the ability to distinguish high performing people – rather than just those with a degree – from a group of job candidates. Currently, the federal hiring process is both dilapidated and archaic, and it serves as a deterrent to attracting these exceptional men and women. The simple truth is that every hardworking taxpayer in America deserves an efficient and accountable federal government that’s supported by those with appropriate skills.

Justice For Victims of Open Borders Act

The Justice for Victims of Open Borders Act is a viable solution to address rising crime that stems directly from the influx of illegal aliens at the southern border – two issues that the federal government, and especially President Biden, have failed to address. Specifically, this bill would require states to consolidate crime data to create an accurate system of reporting and yield more transparency to the American people through the public accounting of crimes committed by illegal aliens in the United States.

The Unfunded Mandates Accountability and Transparency Act

The Unfunded Mandates Accountability and Transparency Act would expose and rein in burdensome, unfunded federal mandates imposed on state and local governments, as well as the private sector. This legislation opens the door to a stronger application of accountability and transparency to federal mandates so that their costs are realized by every hardworking taxpayer and that the federal government is properly held to account.

The Spending Safeguard Act

The Spending Safeguard Act clamps down on Washington’s reckless and wasteful spending binges with commonsense budgetary reforms. Two-thirds of all federal spending is allocated to mandatory spending programs, but fiscal oversight of these programs – and opportunities to curb their exceeded cost estimates – fall far short of what the American people demand. This legislation restores congressional control over spending increases by establishing program-specific caps for new or reauthorized programs.

While we have certainly accomplished a great deal this year, our work is far from over. Rest assured that I’ll continue to fight in Washington to uphold our values, safeguard our way of life, and promote the bedrock conservative principles we’re proud to espouse.
