Foxx Report

Israel deserves our continued, ironclad support – today, tomorrow, and always. This past weekend, as I am sure you have seen by now, Iran launched a series of unjustified, direct attacks against Israel. The footage is unbelievably harrowing. Yet again, our longstanding ally faces a threat to its very existence – it remains imperative that America stands with Israel and pushes back against Iran’s terrorist proxies.

To achieve that end, House Republicans passed several bills this week that reaffirm America’s support for Israel and punish Iran for its brazen attacks – I was proud to support them all. Below are a few important pieces of legislation that passed that I want to call to your attention.

  • H. Res. 883 expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that the slogan, ‘‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’’ is antisemitic and its use must be condemned.
  • H.R. 4691, the Iran Sanctions Relief Review Act, provides for tighter congressional oversight of any attempt by the Administration to weaken sanctions imposed on Iran.
  • H.R. 5921, the No U.S. Financing for Iran Act, stymies resources available to Iran by prohibiting the Treasury from issuing any licenses authorizing a U.S. financial institution to engage in transactions for trade with Iran.
  • H.R. 5947, ensures Iran cannot gain access to funds that could be used to support terrorism, including funding the Biden Administration has tried to make available to the Iranian regime.
  • H.R. 6046, the Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act, redesignates the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization after the Biden Administration removed them from the list.

Israel has every right to exist and defend itself. The Jewish people have a right to exist. House Republicans understand these two simple truths, and we remain committed to supporting our ally every step of the way. Anything less is unacceptable.

Get A Warrant

Along with my strong “NO” vote against FISA last week, I was proud to support the Fourth Amendment is Not for Sale Act this Wednesday when it came to the House floor for a vote. The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, as we know, prohibits both federal and state officials from conducting unreasonable searches and seizures. This legislation stops the federal government from circumventing the Fourth Amendment by closing loopholes that allow the government to purchase Americans’ data from big tech companies without a warrant. Further, it closes loopholes that permit the intelligence community to buy or otherwise acquire metadata about Americans’ international calls, texts and emails to family and friends abroad, and obtain records about their web browsing of foreign websites.

Columbia In Crisis

As you may recall from my newsletter to you last week, the Committee on Education and the Workforce held a hearing on Wednesday to examine Columbia University’s failure to address antisemitism on its campus. Some of the worst cases of antisemitic assaults, harassment, and vandalism on college campuses have occurred at Columbia University. Due to the severe and pervasive nature of these cases, and the Columbia administration’s failure to enforce its own policies to protect Jewish students, it was pertinent that the Committee hear from Columbia’s leadership in person to learn how the school is addressing antisemitism on its campus. Antisemitism must have no safe harbor in American universities.

Quote of The Week

“The purpose of the Jewish state is to secure the Jewish future. That is why Israel must always have the ability to defend itself, against any threat.”

-Benjamin Netanyahu
