I’m thankful every day for the countless men and women who stand watch over the southern border, and I firmly believe they deserve our profound gratitude every day. Dedicating one’s career to defending this great country, in any capacity, is truly inspiring. Now, protecting America’s borders is not an issue that’s here one day and gone the next. It’s the issue of a lifetime. Generations of Americans to come deserve to live in a country that is protected, and not one that’s left vulnerable due to lopsided policy agendas. Sadly, it seems that imperative holds no weight in the current administration, and it’s downright shameful.
Unfortunately, most of the news on the Biden Administration’s recent assault on border security has shifted to the back pages of popular newspapers and online, and I believe that you should know what’s at stake and the real implications of what’s being done. Recently, President Joe Biden reinstituted former President Obama’s controversial catch and release policy that allows illegal immigrants who were deported back into the United States even after it was proven to be a flawed approach to curbing illegal immigration. He then went on to sign Executive Orders that would stop new border wall construction in its tracks – significantly halting the progress that had been achieved under President Trump. And, if things weren’t bad enough already, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers face a new policy that will hinder them in deporting immigrants who are accused of heinous crimes and felonies. This isn’t border security, it’s handing out “get-out-of-jail-free” cards as if they were candy.
My Republican colleagues and I are deeply troubled by what’s happening, and we will continue to fight against the radical border insecurity policies that Joe Biden wants to champion. The American people deserve protection, and we won’t let up until that’s achieved.
What’s Lurking In The Newest “Relief” Bill?
There’s more to the newest “relief” bill that’s being rammed through Congress than meets the eye, and you deserve to know what’s in it. I’ve heard from so many constituents who are outright concerned that this bill fails to meet the mark on a multitude of levels, and they’re correct. Only nine percent of the funding in this bill is focused on defeating COVID-19. It’s time for the facts to be put front and center. Here are just a few concerning components that come to mind:
-
This bill crowds out small businesses with the most need for additional PPP funding by expanding eligibility to large, affiliated nonprofits, labor unions, country clubs, fraternities and sororities and publicly traded internet news organizations.

My Latest Op-Ed In The Washington Times
Recently I joined my colleague, Representative Kay Granger (R-TX), a former educator and current Republican Leader of the House Committee on Appropriations, in penning an op-ed that appeared in the Washington Times about reopening schools safely. I highly encourage you to read the article as we lay out the case for why students have been robbed of their educational pursuits for over a year. As former educators, we understand the importance of not only student success in the classroom, but also how students grow and prosper alongside their peers. If school closures continue, we will see lasting negative effects for our nation’s children. Instead of adhering to the fear-mongering tactics of unions, let’s follow the science — by reopening schools now.
Quote of The Week
“No man can be truly free whose liberty is dependent upon the thought, feeling and action of others, and who has himself no means in his own hands for guarding, protecting, defending and maintaining that liberty”
Have a blessed weekend.
