Thanksgiving serves a more profound purpose than just a day absent of work. It’s a time of reflection, comradery, and unity among family, friends, and communities. There’s no doubt that this year has been fraught with hardships, and as a nation, we’ve stood alongside each other to fight this pandemic. But amidst those hardships, the moments when America was seemingly brought to its knees, we have turned to one idea that has prevailed even when the Pilgrims arrived in America 400 years ago: hope.
After a voyage of 66 days at sea, the Pilgrims arrived weary and with trepidation of what the new world held, but those feelings did not persist. They came to start new lives, and they were not deterred by the circumstances they faced upon their arrival. Most importantly, the Pilgrims had an abiding trust in God, and they knew that whatever obstacles came their way, they would surpass them. I believe that same spirit and grit still resides in us today, and it’s the embodiment of what it means to be an American.
You see, hope always springs eternal. It’s not a fly-by-night concept; it’s one that propels both the American people, and the country, forward.
As we celebrate and give thanks, we must acknowledge those who provide us with hope. First responders. Hospital personnel. Small businesses. Community groups. Farmers. Manufacturers. Private sector innovators. Truck drivers. Grocery store clerks. Everyday Americans. Countless men and women answered the call to serve their communities once COVID-19 touched our shores, and they answered that call without fear. They knew that America needed them to act, and they truly delivered. To me, they are the embodiment of hope and they deserve our thanks every day.
May God bless you, your families, and this great country.
Have A Blessed Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
