The reconciliation process continued this week as committees in the House and Senate began their work in crafting their respective pieces of President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill. On Tuesday, the Education and Workforce Committee, one of my committee assignments, passed the Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan – a key portion of the president’s bill. The Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan, in total, will save hardworking taxpayers across the nation more than $330 billion.

This legislation works to:

  • Strengthen accountability for students and taxpayers by preventing future attempts at so-called “student loan forgiveness” while requiring colleges and universities to pay a portion of unpaid student loans based on the return on investment of the degree provided.
  • Streamline student loan options by increasing simplicity and affordability so students do not borrow and accrue excessive debt that they can never repay.
  • Simplify student loan repayment by consolidating existing repayment plans into two separate options: a fixed repayment plan (like a house mortgage) and an income-driven repayment plan (IDR) that will help lower-income borrowers.

At its core, the Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan is about reforming post-secondary education so that hardworking taxpayers and students are better served. With this key component of President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful bill having been passed out of the Education and Workforce Committee, we have made a positive step in the right direction. I look forward to providing you with additional updates as the reconciliation process continues. The best is yet to come.

A Bipartisan Victory for Children

This week, the House passed an important bipartisan piece of legislation that helps protect children from malicious digital content online. The Take It Down Act, which was supported by the First Lady of the United States, works to shield children from the dangers of graphic, deepfake exploitation online. This legislation was highlighted by President Trump during his Joint Address to Congress this year. I was proud to vote in support of the Take It Down Act, and I look forward to President Trump signing it into law.

An Interesting Read

This Tuesday marked President Trump’s first 100 days in office – and there has certainly been a lot of progress made by his administration thus far. One area where the nation has seen significant progress is the securing of the southern border. The Federalist recently published an article detailing President Trump’s efforts in confronting illegal immigration and protecting the American people – such as his signing of the Laken Riley Act as well as declaring a national emergency at the southern border to name a few. Just another example of promises made, promises kept.
