Relief is coming for hardworking taxpayers across the nation thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill. The average taxpayer will be saving more while paying less. You may recall that when this legislation passed out of the House and headed to President Trump’s desk, I highlighted how it cemented the largest tax cut in history for middle-and working-class Americans. This week, I’m highlighting the average estimated tax cuts per county across the ten counties that make up North Carolina’s 5th District.
In mid-August, the Tax Foundation released a new, interactive map that provides estimates of how much money Americans will save thanks to the tax cuts within the One Big Beautiful Bill. Here is a breakdown of the average, estimated tax cuts in 2026 that North Carolinians across the 5th District will experience:
Alexander County: -$2,647
Alleghany County: -$2,464
Ashe County: -$2,647
Caldwell County: -$2,199
Guilford County: -$3,310
Rockingham County: -$2,250
Stokes County: -$2,320
Surry County: -$2,446
Watauga County: -$3,307
Wilkes County: -$2,419
In every state, including North Carolina, hardworking taxpayers will see a reduction in their federal taxes that would have otherwise skyrocketed if the One Big Beautiful Bill had not passed. What’s more, because of this legislation, now law, it is estimated that 938,000 full-time equivalent jobs will be created across the nation. As I’ve said before, the One Big Beautiful Bill is the real deal, and I’m proud to have helped secure its passage in the House as the Chair of the Rules Committee. There are many more wins to come, and I look forward to helping make them possible. The best is always yet to come.
An Interesting Read
American energy dominance has returned. Recently, Stephen Moore, a renowned economist and former adviser to President Trump, penned an op-ed in the North State Journal detailing how made-in-America energy is booming under this administration. He points out in his article that our nation sits upon an estimated $50 trillion worth of untapped energy potential – a commercial value so great that it would wipe out a considerable portion of the national debt. Further, he discusses how a pro-American energy posture under President Trump is leading the nation to dominate the global energy markets while lowering costs for hardworking Americans and their families across the country.

A Piece of American History
I’ve came across an interesting piece of North Carolina’s history that I need to share with you. John Hood of the John Locke Foundation recently published an insightful article detailing how the first-ever Congress was convened in North Carolina following the disbanding of the colonial legislature within the state in April of 1775. He details the genesis of this Congress and how a key figure, Samuel Johnston – a Scottish immigrant and lawyer living in Chowan County – came to lead it. I had never heard of this historical accounting before, and I am sure you will find it as interesting as I do. North Carolina played a significant role within the American Revolution, and this is yet another chapter of our state’s history that confirms this simple fact.
