One dollar of hardworking taxpayer money wasted is one too many. Last night, House Republicans passed President Trump’s rescissions request – that he previously submitted to Congress – to cut $9 billion in wasteful spending that was uncovered by DOGE. We promised fiscal responsibility and government efficiency, and we have delivered for the American people once more. Americans want their tax dollars to be spent prudently and not chucked carelessly at things that do not align with their values and their own fiscal sensibilities.

Here are a handful of examples of wasteful spending identified by DOGE that will be eliminated:

  • $1.1 billion for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
  • $135 million in contributions to the corrupt and dangerous World Health Organization (WHO)
  • $18 million to “improve gender diversity in Mexican street lighting”
  • $4.4 million for a Melanesian Youth Climate Corps.
  • $2.5 million to teach children how to make “environmentally friendly reproductive health decisions”.
  • $500,000 for electric buses in Rwanda.

The examples of wasteful spending, as you can very well imagine, go on and on. I was very proud to have shepherded this legislation through the Rules Committee, to have debated it on the House floor, and to have voted in favor of it. The American people saw the fiscal ruin that was created by the previous administration – that’s why they overwhelmingly chose Republicans to lead the nation and restore fiscal sanity. We continue to uphold that commitment. And, with additional rescissions packages on the horizon, as the President and Speaker Johnson have indicated, the best is yet to come.

An Interesting Read

Recently, Speaker Johnson penned an op-ed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that discusses a recent decision issued by a federal court in Texas that would prohibit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from issuing penalties to churches that use political speech during services. Here is a short excerpt:

“As we approach the 250th birthday of our great nation, it has never been more important to defend truth on every front, repair our foundations, and hold fast to who we are and what we stand for. Anyone who has been misled to believe that religious principles and viewpoints must be separated from public affairs should be reminded to review their history. Let us hope the federal court in Texas accepts the IRS consent judgment as yet another acknowledgment of these essential truths.”

I believe it is well worth your time to read the full op-ed, which you can do by clicking here.

Good News for North Carolina

Late last week, North Carolina was named ‘America’s Top State for Business in 2025’ by CNBC. Indeed, this is tremendous news. The ranking is based on 135 different metrics across ten separate categories such as education, workforce, economy, and infrastructure to name a few. This ranking is thanks to Republican-led efforts in the General Assembly that have resulted in lower tax rates, increased educational opportunities, and the sharp reduction of regulatory speed bumps that encumber growth and prosperity.

Quote of The Week

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.”
