House Republicans are not slowing down in our work to meet the demands of the American people. Our foot is placed firmly upon the gas pedal, and we have no plans of letting up any time soon. This week, we advanced two separate pieces of legislation to protect the integrity of American elections right here at home and to rein in rogue judges across the nation respectively. Let’s discuss them.

H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, would amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of U.S. citizenship from an individual to register and vote in elections for federal office. The only people who should vote in American elections are American citizens – there’s no debate about that and it should not be controversial. Republicans do not thumb our noses at election integrity, for we understand that Americans deserve free, transparent, and fair elections. The SAVE Act presents us with an opportunity to add additional layers of protection to elections right here in our own country.

H.R. 1526, the No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025, would limit the authority of district courts to provide sweeping injunctive relief on a nationwide, or exceedingly broad, scale. As of late, we have certainly seen a slew of rulings by rogue judges that surpass their own constitutional authority. This is judicial warfare in the flesh. If it is not remedied in a commonsense and expeditious fashion, these exercises in partisanship will do further irreparable damage to the nation and to the confidence of Americans in our own justice system. The act of exceeding constitutional mandates as a matter of judicial philosophy does nothing more than blight justice itself.

I was proud to vote in favor of the No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025 as well as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act when they came before the House for a full vote. As I’ve said before, House Republicans remain laser focused on governing and advancing legislation that addresses pertinent issues across the nation. While we have made significant strides, our work is far from over. I look forward to sharing further updates on the wins we’ll secure for the American people.

Recognizing Our Heroes

Last Friday, I held a pinning ceremony in Rockingham County to recognize and honor Vietnam Veterans who reside in North Carolina’s 5th District. As someone who comes from a family of proud service members, I cannot overstate how appreciative I am of the sacrifices made to protect this great country and its citizens. Sadly, our nation’s heroes who served in the Vietnam War were never given the commendation and official welcome home they deserved. In my eyes, and in the eyes of many, this is entirely unacceptable. Last Friday’s ceremony sought to change this, and I’m immensely pleased that we were able to properly honor those who sacrificed so much to defend our nation.

A New Letter

Recently, members of the North Carolina delegation, me included, sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requesting that the tax filing deadline for those impacted by Hurricane Helene’s devastation be extended. Here’s a short excerpt:

“While the hurricane occurred months ago, businesses are still grappling with billions of dollars in damages. Many of these businesses suffered total losses, and did not have adequate insurance coverage, as Western North Carolina does not routinely see natural disasters as damaging as Hurricane Helene. In addition to the unprecedented damage caused by the hurricane, various grants, loans, and other forms of relief were delayed, leaving many businesses and individuals waiting months to receive the appropriate disaster assistance.”
