Foxx Statement on U.S. Military Combat Operations in Iran

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on the successful U.S. military combat operation in Iran that has crippled Iran’s regime of terror and opened a new door for peace within the Middle East.

“Deceased senior leaders of the Iranian regime have reaped what they have sown – their barbarism, terrorism, and blighting of international diplomacy are at an end. Over the course of decades, Iran and its numerous proxies acted with impunity and have murdered Americans, marred stability within the Middle East, and attempted to sow fear in the hearts of millions through brute force. Their reign of terror has been snuffed out like a candle – today is a new day, and one that serves as a turning point for the Iranian people who deserve unbridled freedom on their own terms. Thanks to the bold leadership and resolve of the United States, our ally Israel, and partners in the Middle East, a new opportunity for peace has been kindled. The nations of the world should embrace the decimation of the chief sponsor of global terrorism. Our alliances are being secured. But most of all, American lives, the security of our troops in the region, and the interests of our nation are protected through this operation. May God bless our servicemembers, our allies, and our entire nation.”

Foxx Applauds DHS Disaster Funding for Western North Carolina

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced nearly $40 million in FEMA Public Assistance grants for counties across the 5^th District that were devastated by Hurricane Helene:

“For over a year, I’ve advocated relentlessly for western North Carolina with DHS as well as FEMA to allocate additional funding to help our area rebuild and recover – today’s announcement by DHS is welcome news indeed. These funding patches will play a positive role in the repairing and restoration of critical public infrastructure priorities that need significant attention.

“I am grateful to Secretary Noem and her team at DHS for working with me to get these funds out to Western North Carolina. I would also like to applaud Senator Ted Budd, Chairman Michael Whatley, as well as my Republican colleagues within the North Carolina delegation for their staunch advocacy so that communities in the 5^th District and across North Carolina can receive the necessary assistance that they so desperately need in rebuilding. As I have since Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina over a year ago, I will continue to do everything I can to support the recovery efforts back home.”

Foxx Praises Significant Peace Agreement Between the State of Israel and Hamas

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on phase one of the historic peace agreement – brokered by President Trump – that was agreed to by the State of Israel and Hamas.

“Blessed are the peacemakers. This new agreement has undeniably opened the door for peace within the middle east – we certainly have President Trump to thank for his continued, diligent efforts,” said Representative Foxx. “Israeli families have suffered immeasurable grief in the past two years from the carnage and heinous atrocities that occurred on October 7, 2023. They deserve a sense of peace and healing – they also deserve to be reunited with their loved ones immediately. I pray that this agreement will bring a long lasting, always sought for, peace for the Jewish people –harmony must be returned to their daily lives.”

Foxx Introduces SOAR Act Improvements Act

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after introducing the SOAR Act Improvements Act, legislation that makes targeted improvements to the only federally funded school choice program in the nation to help children from low-income families in Washington, D.C. succeed.

“School choice has the power to improve the lives and trajectories of our nation’s future leaders – there’s no question or debate about it. Washington, D.C. is a prime example of where school choice is working in our nation, and countless young men and women from low-income families are receiving a quality education that will propel them to new heights,” said Representative Foxx.

“The SOAR Act Improvements Act helps reauthorize the District’s successful Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) that provides low-income children scholarships so they can attend a private school in the District. This bill reauthorizes the program for an additional seven years while providing program administrators increased flexibility to run the program efficiently. It also improves how funds appropriated from Congress are allocated within the program. This is an opportunity to do the right things for the right reasons, and I look forward to this legislation’s full consideration in the House.”

Foxx Announces U.S. Service Academy Day

OAK RIDGE, N.C. – Congresswoman Virginia Foxx will hold a U.S. Service Academy Day on Saturday, September 6^th, from 10am-12pm at Oak Ridge Military Academy in the Bonner Gymnasium. Representatives from all five U.S. Service Academies will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on their respective application processes. This event is open to all students, parents, counselors, and educators in North Carolina’s 5^th District.

Foxx, Gottheimer Introduce Bill to Hold Higher Education Accountable for BDS Activity

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Today, Representatives Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) introduced the bipartisan Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act, legislation that prohibits colleges and universities from receiving federal student aid if they engage in commercial and academic boycotts dictated by those in the boycott-sanction-divest (BDS) movement.

“The antisemitic rot that has corroded college campuses must be eradicated – enough is enough. The safety and security of Jewish students, faculty, and staff should never be threatened under any circumstances. If an institution of higher education chooses to capitulate to the caustic BDS movement, there will be consequences – starting with this bipartisan legislation,” said Representative Foxx.

“The goal of the BDS movement is the destruction of the democratic State of Israel, America’s critical ally in the global fight against terror. BDS has no place on college campuses or anywhere in our country. At a time when our Jewish students are facing death threats, being physically assaulted, and blocked from going to class simply for who they are, we must do everything possible to ensure they can learn safely, speak freely, and get the education they deserve,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “That’s why I’m proud to help introduce the bipartisan Protect Economic Freedom Act to give the Department of Education a critical new tool to combat the dangerous, hate-fueled, antisemitic BDS movement on college campuses. We cannot allow antisemitism to run rampant and endanger Jewish students, staff, and faculty. Now more than ever, we must stand up and protect our Jewish community.”

BACKGROUND

The Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act would:

Require colleges and universities to annually certify that the institution is not engaging in a non-expressive commercial boycott of Israel or forgo ability to receive federal student aid.
Define “non-expressive commercial boycott of Israel” to mean a commercial action (including engaging in refusals to deal with Israel and terminating business activities) intended to limit commercial relations with Israel or persons or entities conducting business in Israel or in Israeli-controlled territories.
Direct the Department of Education to make publicly available a list of all institutions who do not certify.
Requires colleges and universities that are recipients of International Education Programs (Title VI) funding do not allow academic boycotts but instead engage in academic exchange reciprocity.

Foxx Issues Warning to Columbia University Administrators

“Last April, on the steps of Low Library at Columbia University, I stood alongside Speaker Johnson, several of my Republican colleagues, and Jewish students to call attention to the university’s invertebrate response to antisemitic demonstrations and egregious lack of protections given to Jewish students, faculty and staff.

“The $200 million agreement between Columbia University and the Trump administration is certainly a good start, and I commend everyone involved in holding the university to account. However, Columbia is not absolved of its sins – its atonement is not said and done with simply through this agreement. The university has a very long way to go if it is to ever retain a shred of credibility or respect in the eyes of many – every time the university’s administrators move a muscle, I will be watching.”

Foxx Supports Ongoing Efforts to Push Back Against Iran’s Despotic Political Regime

DOGE is a harbinger of necessary change

Since the day the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was constituted, so-called liberal “pundits” within the mainstream media have whipped themselves into a self-induced, apoplectic frenzy. They sprang to their bully pulpits and preached of a forthcoming apocalypse — as if to suggest that an injection of accountability and transparency within the federal government is a poisonous cocktail that the nation was being forced to ingest.

Their reactions and commentary then, as well as now, are entirely risible. With the copious amounts of haranguing against DOGE that have flooded the news cycle for months, Americans were undeniably subjected to misinformation hour after hour. That haranguing continues to this day, and one begins to wonder why there are so many who are adamantly averse to a bright light being shined upon the federal government’s own corners of fiscal irresponsibility.

Since the beginning of the year, DOGE’s efforts have amounted to an ongoing holistic cleanse of Washington. We all understand that government must always remain accountable to the people. Every public servant, regardless of what political banner he or she chooses to carry, should support this very simple aim. However, what I have seen and heard from my Democrat colleagues in Washington in response to DOGE is entirely bewildering. Rather than supporting the right sizing of the federal government — and taking a scalpel to waste, fraud, and abuse — they are taking to social media, television, and to the House floor to peddle misinformation and falsehoods that are intended to scare Americans.

Here’s the stone-cold truth that you will not hear from Democrats in Washington: DOGE is a long-awaited antiserum that will work to pare back the federal government in the right ways and for the right reasons. The act of restoring accountability and transparency is an endeavor that is always worthy of bipartisan consensus and support — I certainly believe that to be true. Without an honest, surgically precise audit of the federal government’s own actions, how can Americans truly know where their hard-earned tax dollars are really going, and what they’re being used for? This is a pertinent question that is worthy of an answer.

While efforts to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse continue at the federal level, I would be sorely remiss if I did not recognize the North Carolina General Assembly for its work in emulating DOGE’s mission and work. State-level undertakings to make government closest to the people more accountable and transparent are positive and worthy of commendation.

President Trump’s abiding investment in DOGE has inspired states to pause and examine their own actions under a microscope — with the intention of finding opportunities for savings, uprooting inefficient programs and services, and finding proactive ways to serve the people in a far more efficient capacity. Despite what the media will want you to believe, this is an exercise in upholding and fostering good governance. DOGE is a harbinger for necessary change, and we ought to welcome it.
