WASHINGTON – Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., today voted in favor of a resolution of disapproval that blocks an Obama administration regulation forcing states to include abortion providers as recipients of Title X grant distributions. “States have always had the freedom to direct funds away from abortion providers,” said Foxx during remarks on the House floor. “Not only does this regulation ignore the American people's wish that their tax dollars be directed away from abortion providers, it also den... What about the Do Not Call Registry? It doesn't cover debt collector calls or those from charities, political groups or surveys. Those entities can call you all they want at least for now. Although just last week, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx introduced House Bill 740 "ROBO Calls Off Phones Act" or ROBO COP act. It would expand the 'Do Not Call Registry" to include political Robocalls, not all political calls, just the ones done by machine. 2WTK will keep you updated on this. In the meantime, her... A measure that would permanently block new labor and employment law violation disclosure requirements for federal contractors moved another step forward as Feb. 2, as House lawmakers voted to approve it. House members voted 236-187 on the disapproval resolution (H.J. Res. 37). The measure would scrap regulations and guidance implementing former President Barack Obama's Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces executive order (E.O. 13,673). The order, branded by business groups as “blacklisting,” requires fe... Read more

WASHINGTON – Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., has introduced legislation to stop the intrusion of political robocalls in homes across America. H.R. 740, the Robo Calls Off Phones Act or Robo COP Act, expands the types of unsolicited calls restricted by the national Do Not Call Registry to include political robocalls, giving the American people the opportunity to opt out of the bothersome campaign season interruption. “Every campaign season, like clockwork, families are bombarded by an endless stream ... Federal regulations — whether good, bad or indifferent — can blindside local governments and companies, leaving them struggling to find money to comply. Republican U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx of our 5th District has joined with Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas on a bill that, if it becomes law, will alleviate this problem of unfunded mandates. City Manager Lee Garrity of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Manager Dudley Watts both indicated that they would welcome the transparency the bill would... Read more

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5th, announced bipartisan legislation last week aimed at shedding more light on possible unfunded mandates that local governments and private-sector employers may incur as a result of new rules set by federal regulatory bodies. The bill has been referred to committee. A similar version passed the U.S. House last year but did not make it through the U.S. Senate. “Every year, Washington imposes thousands of rules on local governments and small businesses,” Foxx said. “Hi... Some U.S. House Republicans goofed, to put it plainly, by taking steps toward eliminating an independent ethics board as one of its first congressional term actions. And Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx, whose district contains much of Northwest North Carolina, was correct to vote against the wrongheaded move. The Office of Congressional Ethics is an independent body created in 2008 to investigate allegations of misconduct by lawmakers after several bribery and corruption scandals sent members to p... U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5th, voted against a move by some House Republicans to weaken an independent congressional ethics board, a proposal that on Tuesday came under fire from President-elect Donald Trump and got yanked from going to a floor vote. A majority of the House Republican Conference voted Monday to clip the powers of the Office of Congressional Ethics, the independent body created in 2008 to investigate allegations of misconduct by lawmakers after several bribery and corruption sca... WASHINGTON – Reps. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., and Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, today introduced legislation to shed light on how federal policies impact the budgets of state and local governments and private sector employers. “Every year Washington imposes thousands of rules on local governments and small businesses. Hidden in those rules are costly mandates that stretch state and city budgets and make it harder for businesses to hire,” said Foxx. “This legislation will help restore transparency and hold...
