Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and so too is the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). We ought to commend the DOGE and Elon Musk for their work in bulldozing the federal bureaucracy. Not even a full two months into 2025 and they have unearthed gargantuan, wasteful spending binges of your taxpayer dollars across the federal government. According to the DOGE, it is saving the federal government approximately $1 BILLION PER DAY. This diligent undertaking has already exposed the Deep State, and the stark incompetency that has taken root across the federal government for far too long.

Here are just a few examples of the DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts over the past weeks. While this list is not exhaustive, it underscores the important work being done to rein in the federal bureaucracy, restore accountability, and protect your taxpayer dollars.

  • On February 4th, the DOGE announced that it canceled 12 contracts in the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Department of Education that resulted in savings of around $30 million.
  • On February 3rd, the DOGE cancelled 36 contracts across six federal agencies that resulted in savings of around $165 million.
  • On February 2nd, the DOGE announced it had cancelled 22 leases over a seven-day period that totaled $44.6 million in savings.
  • On January 29th, the DOGE announced it slashed 85 contracts related to so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives across more than a dozen federal agencies that resulted in roughly $1 billion in savings.

While some in Washington are having a conniption fit over the work DOGE and Elon Musk are doing, I fully support it. President Trump’s Executive Order on January 20th that established DOGE was a brilliant decision, and one that set Washington on the right course. The federal bureaucracy has grown larger and larger for too long, and there’s one simple solution: send in the DOGE.

A Worthwhile Read

As you know, I am an avid reader, and I’m always looking for good articles to share with you that shed light on important issues facing the nation. One issue that is a serious cause for concern is how America’s students are falling behind. When I was Chairwoman of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, I was very vocal about this issue – and I remain vocal about it to this day. David Winston, a political pollster and strategist, recently penned an article in Roll Call that talks about how we can confront this issue and get America’s future leaders back on track in the classroom. I believe the article is as insightful as it is pointed – it’s a worthwhile read.

New Scam Alert

In my January 31st newsletter to you, I called your attention to a list of tax season scams that was compiled by the Better Business Bureau. This week, I have an additional scam – related to fraudsters posing as IRS representatives – that you need to know about. In this elaborate scam, victims are sent text message asking for personal, sensitive information in return for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) of $1,400. These scams fall into the category of what is referred to as “phishing” – a common scam that imitates official communications from a government entity of legitimate source. I highly encourage you to read a recent article published in Newsweek that covers this scam, as well as others, in depth.

Quote of The Week

"You will never understand bureaucracies until you understand that for bureaucrats, procedure is everything and outcomes are nothing.”
