Fall is officially here, but instead of celebrating the leaves beginning to change and the weather becoming cooler, families are finding themselves gathered around their kitchen tables, with their heads resting in their hands, wondering how much further they can stretch their budgets. If you have been wondering if you’re alone in facing skyrocketing household expenses, I can assure you that you are not. This has become a reality for so many, and it’s a direct result of President Biden’s assault on energy freedom in America. It should never have come to this point. As we transition into the latter part of the year, the average American household will be forced to tighten its budget a few more notches.

17%. That’s how much more American families will be forced to pay to heat their homes this year. Many may not know that natural gas prices are sitting close to a near 14-year-high. What’s more, natural gas prices have already jumped an eye-popping 33% over the past year. As of last month, nearly one quarter of Americans reported foregoing basic expenses like food or medicine to afford an energy bill, according to a recent survey.

What about electricity costs? Families across the country are currently paying the highest electricity prices since 1981. This is the highest they’ve been in over four decades. Unfortunately, there’s more. This upcoming winter, the cost of electricity is forecasted to jump by 7.5%. Currently, one in six Americans are behind on their energy bills and are in danger of losing their utility services.

I firmly believe that we need an all-of-the-above approach to solve the energy catastrophe that President Biden’s failed policies have created. I’ve cosponsored six key pieces of legislation, as listed in my April 8^th newsletter to you, that can help put energy freedom in the express lane and deliver relief to hardworking Americans and their families. This unprecedented assault on energy freedom in this country should be put to an end, and I will continue to fight every day to ensure that happens. Sitting back and propping one’s feet up is never an acceptable answer while there’s work to be done. You can count on me to see things through.

Our Commitment to America

Last week, House Republicans, led by Leader McCarthy, unveiled the Commitment to America – our plan to lead the country out of ruin and in the right direction. The American people deserve an economy that is strong, a nation that is safe, a future built on freedom, and a government that is accountable. These are fundamental tenets to our commitment. It’s time that Washington truly delivers on the priorities of hardworking taxpayers and families across our great country.

The simple truth is that the American people are at their wits end. They fear that our great country has fallen into a state of disrepair the likes of which have never been seen before. They have watched as our time-tested institutions have become engulfed by a smog of bureaucratic rot. All the while, Washington has trudged onward with more spending schemes and irresponsible policies that are poisoning America.

From the southern border being overrun to inflation that has robbed hardworking Americans and their families, no matter where you turn, the carnage is palpable. Under one-party rule, Americans are bearing the brunt of 40-year high inflation. Crime has exploded in major cities across the entire country. Millions of illegal aliens have poured across the southern border. Gas and grocery prices are growing by leaps and bounds.

Americans are not witnessing progress under one-party rule – they’re watching our Republic crumble by the second. It’s time for a serious change in leadership in Washington. No more reckless spending. No more policies that are antithetical to the will of the American people. No more bureaucratic assaults on the freedoms and values that this country was built upon. This week, I spoke on the House floor about the Commitment to America and how Republicans are producing viable solutions to combat the catastrophes the country is facing.
