Here to serve: How my Congressional office can help you

By Congresswoman Foxx

In 1770 John Adams penned a tongue in cheek letter to his wife Abigail upon his acceptance of a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.  “I have accepted a seat in the House of Representatives,” he wrote, “and thereby have consented to my own ruin, to your ruin, and the ruin of our children.  I give you this warning, that you may prepare your mind for your fate.”

Obviously Adams did not think so little of public service, or else he would not have gone on to be one of our first Presidents.  However, his words do bring to mind how much attention is often given to the “public” component of public service and how little is given to the “service” aspect.

As the Fifth Congressional District’s Representative, one of my privileges is to provide constituent service to the people of the District.  Constituent service takes on many forms.  Sometimes it involves assisting with a trip to DC or with claiming social security benefits.  At other times it involves helping veterans cut through federal red tape or supporting a local organization that is pursuing a federal grant.

Cut through the red tape!

We can help you cut through federal government red tape!

No matter the case, it is always an honor to help constituents deal with and navigate through the federal government.  That’s why I have a dedicated staff right here in North Carolina and in DC with expertise in a whole range of topics.  We are eager to solve problems and help constituents deal with the federal government.  In fact, just last year we helped more than 5,000 people from the Fifth District with everything from passports to federal grants.

Our offices in Boone and Clemmons, NC offer a laundry list of services for you.  We work to obtain service medals for military veterans who lost or never received them, nominate qualified high school students to our military service academies and help expedite passport applications for people who must head overseas on short notice.

Speaking of passports, don’t forget that starting on June 1 you must have a passport to enter or re-enter the country from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or most Caribbean nations.  This is a change from the current rules, which do not require a passport.  If you plan to travel outside the country after June 1, please make sure you have the proper documents for re-entering the country.   Again, my office is happy to help you with the passport application process.  Please contact us as soon as possible if you need any help.

We can also help address your concerns regarding Social Security, the IRS, veterans benefits, grant information, HUD, USDA or any other federal agency.  Please feel free to contact one of my constituent service representatives in the Clemmons office and we’ll be glad to assist you.

If you do ever need assistance with a federal matter, please send me a detailed letter outlining your situation, along with a Privacy Release Form. This form can be found on my Web site, www.foxx.house.gov under “federal assistance” in the constituent services section.  If you do not have internet access, you can pick up a copy at my Boone or Clemmons offices or my staff will be happy to mail the form directly to you.   In order to avoid delays, please send correspondence to my Clemmons office only. By including as much information as possible, you will expedite the process.

I am also pleased to offer internships throughout the year in my North Carolina and Washington, D.C. offices.  These internships are excellent educational opportunities for college students to learn about public service and the legislative branch of government.

For more information about these and many other constituent services I offer, please visit my Web site at www.foxx.house.gov and click on “constituent services.”  If you do not have a computer, you can contact my Clemmons office at 336-778-0211 or toll-free at 1-866-677-8968.

My mission is to have the most responsive Congressional office in the nation.  The staff and I work very hard to be accessible and to respond promptly to your concerns.  We are here to help and welcome the opportunity to work with constituents who need assistance.  I look forward to continuing to serve your needs.
