Join us, for the good of the country
Washington, DC,
November 22, 2012
Growing jobs and shrinking debt have to be the bottom-line goals of a fiscal cliff solution. Republicans have offered a plan that will accomplish both. We encourage the President to join us for the good of our country.
Dear editor, The largest tax increase in history is looming, as are devastating cuts to our military. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in Congress to avert the fiscal cliff in its entirety. In fact, I’ve already voted to stop the cliff. But no single party can solve this issue. Votes from both sides are needed to secure a balanced solution. If we are serious about leaving the country in a better place, the solution must address Washington’s spending addiction and consequent debt. People in both parties agree there is need to correct some glaring problems in our tax code. We also see that economic growth and debt containment are critical. Together we can and should modernize our tax code, get Washington’s spending under control, and reform the entitlement programs that are contributing most heavily to the $16,2 trillion national debt. A balanced solution will not include tax increases. Raising tax rates in the middle of this tepid economic recovery is the exact opposite of what we should be doing if we are serious about making it easier for American small businesses to grow and create jobs. Even raising taxes on “some” Americans will cost our country more than 700,000 existing jobs. Growing jobs and shrinking debt have to be the bottom-line goals of a fiscal cliff solution. Republicans have offered a plan that will accomplish both. We encourage the President to join us for the good of our country.
Sincerely, |
