Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05) today called on President Obama to take the steps necessary to decisively defeat al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.  She also called for the Afghan security forces to step up and begin the process of taking over the security of their country.

“As President Obama launches the next stage of his Afghanistan policy I urge him to commit to finishing the job and to bringing our troops home in victory and not defeat,” Foxx said.

“The path to victory involves putting the proper resources in place to secure the population and ensure that local security forces have the breathing room to stabilize their towns and villages.

“Strong leadership is critical at this point.  The American people and the people of Afghanistan must understand that we will not allow the Taliban and al-Qaeda to win and that a stable Afghanistan is a lynchpin of America’s national security.  As President Obama himself has said, ‘the safety of people around the world is at stake.’”
