U.S. Representative Virginia Foxx announced Wednesday that the Jefferson Police Department has been awarded a 30-thousand dollar grant to purchase 2 new police cars. The new vehicles will replace two 1999 models that have been involved in accidents and have major mechanical problems. Foxx stated that it is important to provide officers who risk their lives every day with the resources they need to do their jobs effectively.

Foxx also supported emergency service personnel by voting for The Faster and Smarter Funding for First Responders Act yesterday. The act ensures more effective and efficient funding for first responders to terrorism by streamlining terrorism preparedness grants, encouraging regional cooperation, and allowing interstate and intrastate regions to apply for grants. It passed the House in a 409-10 vote.
